Title: Winkey Blockers
Post by: L4yercake on Wed, 20 February 2013, 20:30:44
I've seen these on keyboards have been looking around for them and was wondering where one could find them and whether they mount directly onto the switch or do I need to solder the switches off and then apply the win-keys? But first I need to find a pair.

If you just want to disable the left winkey so it is not in the way for gaming, you can do it for free

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,5B,E0,00,00,00,00

I think these only work with PCB mount and not plate mount boards

Nah, you just need to remove adjacent keycaps to get them on.

I was more looking for these, I move my thumb between Left-Alt and Left-Ctrl quite a bit and wouldn't mind having a spot to rest it and I really have an issue with the Win-Key despite it being disabled.

Those are from the KMAC 1.2 or 2. You are unable to get those unless you want to front $400-$600, and make friends with the Koreans/Sherryton.

Alternatively you can make a change in the registry to either disable them or make them do something else.

If you do not want to do that, then there is also all sorts of free software available that does it for you. I don't know the names by heart, but a quick google search should be enough to find them. One of them is called keytweak I think.

If there is something about the winkey itself that bothers you, then maybe you can find an alternative key for it. Since it is not a key that is used by you, a lower profile keycap than the rest of the keycaps on the keyboard would be ideal and not as costly as the solution you were looking for.
