Title: Movies you have seen recently

I guess I have to start it than,
Tell us about a movie you have seen recently with few words about it
Discussing movies that other people watched is allowed too.
I'll go first:

Just finished watching Gattaca

Watched this movie at last after I heard a lot of recommendations about the movie.
I love Ethane Hawke and Uma, really good acting from them,
The movie overall is good but still lacks something which I can't put my finger on that keeps it from being great.
You should watch it if you have the time and can't pick a movie to watch.

Hope to find good movies here, been having troubles finding good ones lately

Thought it would be a little cheesy, but I loved that film, I slightly guessed that it would have predictable ending, but great roles well played. Also Dredd 3D very much enjoyed, very gruesome maybe overly so, characters were poor but lots of shooting and remote control mini-guns!

I'm not one for remembering actors names I'm afraid. What's sort of movies are you into? I would recommend unstoppable to everyone, I would also recommend "God Bless America" (my favourite film of all time) to most people!

If you haven't seen it go and do so :)

Last time I properly sat down and watched films, that I can remember, was watching a bunch of Ghibli films to pass time at the GF's place. Ghibli films are happiness in motion, some of them at least.

I do. Why not man? It still is fun to do so, going to a good movie with friends/girlfriend is quite fun. As a huge movies fan I love it, though don't get me wrong, I'm not going to every movie but few who I think deserve it or waited for it.

Also, watched The Deer Hunter, I don't get all the praising of this movie. Other than great acting from De Niro and Meryl it was quite boring. The beginning of the movie was too slow for my taste, the wedding was way too long and lost it's point after 5 minutes...
I loved the war parts and what the characters got through and the changes the war did to them, it did brought something new about Vietnam war which was refreshing and great to see.

Watched the Archer Seasons 2 and 1 last weekend and the one before, respectively, but I think the last movie I really sat down to watch (besides 20 minutes of The Lion King with my son or whatever) was actually Wreck it Ralph. . . in theatres back in like November.

Needless to say, I don't watch many movies.

I have been meaning to watch Seven Psychopaths though. Looks good.

Afterwards, we discussed the movies that wrecked the most buildings in their urban rampages.

Probably "Transformers 3" wins, but "Dragon Wars" did a lot on a much smaller budget.

Thanks, it's in my watch list for years... now I will defiantly watch it!

Warning though: the pace is slow so it's not for all viewers (and I can certainly appreciate faster paced movies too) : )

Fantastic movie, watched it a couple years ago but remember quite a bit.

Also watched Wreck it Ralph the other day, fantastic move. Oh, and I watched Kazaam, that 90's movie with Shaq in it the other day. Awful, but watched it with a group of friends and it was a lot of fun. I tend to watch lots of bad movies at home because we just sit around and make fun of them, it's loads of fun. And the movie theatre here has dirt cheap tickets if you're a student (like $3 for a matinee and $4 for an evening showing) so I see lots of stuff in theatres. I watched the new Die Hard movie last weekend and it was okay. Wow. I guess I watch a lot of movies... I could probably go on, cause I usually have documentaries running in my room while I write programs or do homework. I've been meaning to watch the Pirate Bay documentary, maybe I'll watch it this weekend..

Starship Trooper series has provided me with more fun and laughter then any recent movies I can think of. Some of the old Arnold movies are on par as well. Soooooo cheesy.

that latest one wasn't very good... they were trying too hard at "pretend ignorance"

Watching the Avengers on Blu ray for me was a big mistake... Most of the set and city shots look REALLY fake because too much green screen was going on... and they clearly didn't have enough time to tweak it all.... SO MUCH POST......

It was ok in the theaters, but up close on my computer.. it's blecch...

I loved how they made the ending. Very sad to hear about the company responsible for the CGI got the shaft though.

The Hobbit.
Classic LOTR humor and action. Despite it's long 2hrs 47minutes run time never a boring moment. What sucks is having to wait for the next one.:)

I don't understand why people theorize about inception... It's such a boring movie...

And they also picked the worst possible unattractive weird dot thing on her head person for caprio's wife, and every time she comes on screen, it's like "wtf is that"... god I wish they'd explain that dot thing on her head and why it's there.

Other than the fact of the awesome acting which I think makes 70% of this movie, the movie was great and really interesting add to that the cinematography of this movie and you get a really great movie.
After this movie I'll definitely watch the movies that DDL played in and the writers other movies. I saw Magnolia and it was really awesome and one of the few several interrelated stories movie that I really loved and Boogie Nights is in my watching list for quite some time now.

Seven Psychopaths wasn't that great. It's worth the bandwidth but not much more.

Django, Lincoln were pretty good. Silver Lining Playbook was much better than I thought it was going to be.

Django felt wayyyyy too long for me to like. Some parts were just boring and the ending scene was kinda meh really. I don't know why but I think after watching the Korean vengeance movies all this hollywoodik violence seems not too violent at all.

Boring, drawn out, not sure why it's getting so much praise besides the whole "true story" aspect.

Movie was great. The entire audience was laughing all the way through it , even though the movie deals with things like poverty, handicaps etc.

It's on my "To-Watch" list

Viewed "Seven Psychopaths" this weekend with my wife. She didn't like it because of the watery and somewhat predictable plotline. (There were a few twists that take you by surprise)

I think it's one of those movies that requires multiple viewings to appreciate, cult classic like. I enjoyed it and if you can overlook the plotline flaws and the fact that it was advertised as a shoot-em-up comedy type movie (The trailer does not at all indicate what the final product is like. The one scene with Walken being told to put his hands up while he says "No" "But, I have a gun!" "I don't care." was completely different in context from what I expected.) when in fact it's an emotional black comedy

for reference

Reccomended if you like black comedies and don't care too much about the plot. Some great one liners and setups. Very funny in parts and the acting is spot on fantastic from all the main characters.

Wasn't expecting much going into watching it so that always helps. Reminded me of bmx bandits as a child. Bad guy was a great bad guy!
Argo was alright I just couldn't associate with any of the characters. Couldn't make me care for them so, end up feeling a little flat. Not terrible just wouldn't watch it again.

I feel this way about How I Met Your Mother. People keep trying to force it down my throat, but I feel zero connection with the characters. Let's see a realistic show about a lonely guy with a cat and a drinking problem.

I watched The Green Mile the other day. I watched part of it years ago but never got to finish it but finished it this weekend and loved it. But I felt the ending was good but didn't think it matched the theme very well...

It's on my "To-Watch" list

Viewed "Seven Psychopaths" this weekend with my wife. She didn't like it because of the watery and somewhat predictable plotline. (There were a few twists that take you by surprise)

I think it's one of those movies that requires multiple viewings to appreciate, cult classic like. I enjoyed it and if you can overlook the plotline flaws and the fact that it was advertised as a shoot-em-up comedy type movie (The trailer does not at all indicate what the final product is like. The one scene with Walken being told to put his hands up while he says "No" "But, I have a gun!" "I don't care." was completely different in context from what I expected.) when in fact it's an emotional black comedy

Reccomended if you like black comedies and don't care too much about the plot. Some great one liners and setups. Very funny in parts and the acting is spot on fantastic from all the main characters.

Shoot em' up was great... I mean Monica Bellucci as a wet-nursing prostitute... all kinds of wrong that you just can't turn away from.... It was borderline unnecessary...

7 psychopath was indeed watery...

Seven Psychopaths wasn't that great. It's worth the bandwidth but not much more.

Django, Lincoln were pretty good. Silver Lining Playbook was much better than I thought it was going to be.

Django felt wayyyyy too long for me to like. Some parts were just boring and the ending scene was kinda meh really. I don't know why but I think after watching the Korean vengeance movies all this hollywoodik violence seems not too violent at all.

A younger person may watch this and go ,, yea,, kill dem' crackers".... This generates an unnecessary divide which may ripple into more social angst in young black Americans... for which they may end up compensating by violence or racism 'against whites'

Which is why I've always thought that movies should steer clear of racism, because it can easily be taken out of context, or be viewed by people who would never be exposed to or ever look-up context...

But, i suppose the film studios just can't stop from emotional profiteering off the racism springboard..

Racism should really be explained in a modern class room environment by a qualified professional.. Such as a businessman who sees the objective goals and not the meddling emotions of it all.

I would agree with you on the racist aspect of the question. At least, I feel that movies nowadays are greatly playing on the look-how-bad-white-people-have-been part when the story is way more complicated than this.
In Django, however, I feel it's pretty obvious that southern white guys are exaggerated. This is the most visible in the KKK scene, where those bastards are outrageously dumb. Moreover, Tarantino is known for exaggerating everything. In Kill Bill, this is all about blood shower. I mean, the guys are losing 100 times their whole blood upon dying. Who would believe that?

Hitler is a "figure head" like presidents and ceos or prime- minister

There is a whole governing body with the "REAL Agenda" that you don't see directly...

Everything you read about the "ONE MAN" is probably wrong...

It doesn't make sense for a man with so much power to harbor "unreasonable hatred"..

Why spend the energy.... you have EVERYTHING.... "using" hatred for appearance, cover, and political drama is one thing.. but to TRULY hate someone when they have little impact on your life would just be a boring waste of time.

The plot was basically water, but if all you're looking for is to eat popcorn and be entertained for a couple hours, it does the job nicely.

Bad movie nights are a staple in the social crowds I generally engage with, but Leonard Part 6 did not go over very well. Just a boring annoying movie all around with very little redeeming value.

I watched The Thieves last night, nifty criminal caper movie set in Hong Kong. Some completely insane vertical chase scenes, I think I followed most of the plot twists but it has a cast of at least ten main characters.

I personally enjoyed the first two HellRaiser movies, good practical effect, relate able characters, and unique overall mythology. The best factor about the first one honestly it that it was a movie with the Cenobites as just part of the universe (Not the main character/focus). When the movies start to focus on Pinhead (or just having him around too much) really removes any of the creepiness the character is able project.

I did like Nightbreed myself as well, looking at what vampires in the real world (not romanticized) would look/act like was a unique angle.

I understand the cause of your concern, but I kind of disagree with the "qualified professional" approach. I'm totally not "hating" on anything, and I'm certainly not saying that I'm right, but these are just a couple of thoughts:

1. I believe that there are far too many things that people find too taboo to talk about in life. Religion, politics, race, income, etc.
2. I believe that taboo topics keep us all separated: the less we talk about them, the more power that topic has over us.
3. We don't need to be any more separated than we are.
4. When we talk about things (even movies) sure, we're all going to have different perspectives, we'll all be a little bit ignorant of something (we are all ignorant of lots of things but that doesn't keep us from discussing those things about which we are ignorant). And we'll make mistakes. That, however, is a big part of how we learn: by making mistakes.
5. Waiting for "qualified expert" to teach us implies that we are incapable (or less capable) of contributing meaningful things to the conversation. Too, waiting for "qualified experts" sounds like a hop, skip and jump away from propaganda. Germany, in WWII, had tons of "qualified" experts "teaching" the population about race. We know how that story ended.
6. I think we all need to have a bit more faith in ourselves: nothing is as bad as the ruling elite would have you believe.

Jim Carrey was great although he was only on screen for a few minutes. Christopher Mintz-Plasse was good as usual. the disappointment was there wasn't enough foul language from Chloë Grace Moretz (or fighting).

People who said that movie was bad are too picky..

My criteria for a good movie is simply "presentation"

Original story plot would be great, but that's clearly impossible given the thousands of years of literature already in existence.

So what really separates one movie from that which has come before... "Presentation"

And both Gi-Joe movies were Fantastic presentation...

From the perspective of children who have not yet seen/read all the action hero plots, GI-JOE is superior to anything that comes before it, simply because it's the same story, with MUCH more engaging and convincing CGI.

Leon was the first movie I saw Gary Oldman in, it was a long time ago so I didn't really remember the whole movie.

Iron Man 3 was kinda meh they're milking a dead cow but hey explosions!

Star Trek Into Darkness, I really prefer the 2 new star treks to the old and a big up for simon pegg :D

Had a bit of a movie marathon for a couple of days :D

Kick Ass 2 is something I still wanna see though

they were too careless in "now you see me".. in the other magic movies, they made sure that the CGI never overtook the magic...

In NYSM, all the eye-candy was too obviously cgi..

not that it was a bad movie, but that is what i mean't by the magic was "gone.

Just watched Now You See Me, and I really liked it, I really like these kind of movies i.e the count of monte cristo, limitless, the prestige and such.

Man Of Steel was nice, I liked the Krypton part quite a lot.

Pain & Gain was really funny, but it got really dark towards the end which was kinda disappointing. I want a happy ending :<

Iron Man 3 was kinda meh they're milking a dead cow but hey explosions!

Star Trek Into Darkness, I really prefer the 2 new star treks to the old and a big up for simon pegg :D

Had a bit of a movie marathon for a couple of days :D

Kick Ass 2 is something I still wanna see though

I can't believe you liked "now you see me".. The CGI just took away all the "Magic"...

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

they were too careless in "now you see me".. in the other magic movies, they made sure that the CGI never overtook the magic...

In NYSM, all the eye-candy was too obviously cgi..

not that it was a bad movie, but that is what i mean't by the magic was "gone.

Well it wasn't that much about the magic, it was more of a heist/crime movie like inside man or ocean's movies, but with a twist. I mean they were portrayed as illusionists or street artists, not magicians. And don't most modern magicians copperfields and such have a big show with flashing lights, confetti and sparkly stuff.

They did pretty much explain in detail how (almost) everything was done :P

The hitchcock movies do not resonate with me whatsoever..
