Title: Mixed Switch Color Keyboard?
Post by: Luke on Thu, 28 February 2013, 17:43:48
Hi Guys,

I was just thinking of which switches to use when I build a GH60, currently I use MX Blues on my KeyCool 87 and I really enjoy it for typing day to day. The only time I don't enjoy my blues is when I'm gaming, I find that the WASD keys take too much force to actuate. So then I had a thought, how about I use a medium-stiff switch (Clears) for most of the keys and just have the WASD keys with light switches (Reds).

Would this be a good idea or would it be weird to type on?

Cheers :D

If you think it's a bad Idea...then tell Ducky that.

Haha indeed, but I think there's a bit of a difference between that and what I proposed :P

The springs in blues and reds are the same weight.  Clear springs would be heavier, but if that's ok for typing, go for it there.  If blues are too heavy for WASD use, get something lighter like the 55g springs that sherry sells.

Ah ok, thanks for that :) I would probably go with blues again to be honest because I like them, but I haven't tried anything else so i want to mix things up a little  :))

I went from blues to clears/blacks.

If you like blues but want something without it's shortcomings try light whites.

If you think BLUEs are too heavy... there's nothing out there for you... You'll need a new hobby.

Reds, hell even browns to me feel lighter then blues.

Wow, I didn't know that the springs for Blues and Reds were the same.  I guess the tactile bump makes them feel heavier and more sluggish (to me).

Cheers guys, but like I say it's just the tactile bump on every little movement, and when playing something like Scout on TF2 it feels really weird. I thought that reds had a much smoother travel? :)
