Hello!
I noticed that a local computer (web)store recently stocked on RK-9000's, and I thought this might be a good change to get one. I recall reading that they superglued the connector onto the PCB to make it more sturdy, which sounds good. However:
Is there any way to know for sure, based on the serial number or something, whether they're selling new ones or the ones with the bad USB connector?
The site doesn't give much info about the keyboards: http://www.silentrig.com/product/2461/rosewill-rk-9000br-mx-brown-nordic (http://www.silentrig.com/product/2461/rosewill-rk-9000br-mx-brown-nordic)
Thanks

My real-world test unit is still a-ok after about 5 months of full-time office use.

So far the PS/2 and USB one's are working great tho I've only had them for about 2 months.
-
I have had my Rosewill for over a year now and overall... besides a few scares, the connector on mine is doing just fine. I'm still trying to be very careful when I plug/unplug it or various reasons, but yeah. Its working just fine.
-
None of mine have had any issues. I have 3.

Can someone speak to this? I will be in the market for a Rosewill keyboard soon and it would be nice to know when I buy it if I have the newer model that they added the superglue/stabilizer to.

My original Rosewill from over a year ago is going strong. I bought 5 more and no issues yet.
-
Same here. I've owned 2 Rosewills, using them as daily drivers at home and work with no issues.
-
got my rosewill 2 months a go no problem with connector and stock keycaps lettering hold pretty good comparing to the Meka I bought while back.... letters on Meka went grayish in matter of week.... Waiting on Fengs thick PBT with Italic font to arrive, that font should match descent with the Rosewill logo :)
-
If you bought one now, it's a tad cheaper than the Rosewill PCB's from late-last year. You might run into reliability problems if you constantly move it around.

I bought my Rosewill just a few months ago. It was crap. Thank God for Scotch Tape.

I wrote a million msgs about it. I never unplugged it. Ever.
The connector began making and breaking the connection constantly as I typed. The pressure of my pressing keys was enough to make it break/remake the electrical connection. The result was that the keyboard went totally insane. It was always flashing lights at me, changing my chars into other chars, holding down the alt keys or shift keys, going in slow motion. Just all kinds of !$!@ ridiculous annoying crap.
Putting tape on it has stabilized it so now it has worked 99% perfectly since then. Every time someone sees my keyboard they always ask "Why is there tape all over your keyboard?" then I hafta tell them the story of how Rosewill refuses to make a proper keyboard with a proper strain-relief cable using ancient 20th century technology.
I figure I might be able to use the keyboard like this for a few years before it completely breaks. We'll see. Its all luck. If anything was ever to gently bump the cable or connector it can snap off the rest of the way.
I must say I am very impressed with how well this tape is sticking. Its actually just some cheapo generic tape that is several years old. I figured it would fall off within 30 days but it really stuck well. I am looking at the dispenser now. It is so generic that there are literally no brand markings of any kind. Now that's what I call generic tape. :)

RK-9000 is my daily driver at work since 9/2011. No issues at all except shiny keys :-) It lives at work. I do not move the keyboard much or disconnect it.

but you can fix this easy, if the mini usb gives u problems, open keyboard, desolder the usb, solder it back and apply some gorilla glue on the sides of the usb and no more probs for a very long time if ever again..., that glue is rock solid.
-
This is why I'm asking, since I don't consider opening the KB up and soldering stuff particularily easy, since I don't have any of the necessary equipment, and opening it up breaks the warranty :) But thanks for the input in any case!
-
I think you'd have to get lucky to get a kb with a defective port. From what I've read, the port on the rosewill is fine.
-
Mine is just over a year old with regular use and the USB port is still fine with all the plugging/unplugging I do since I rotate my keyboards.
-
I'm probably going to purchase one of these keyboards. Are there any preventive measures I can take so that the USB port doesn't break, like getting a new cable or resoldering the port right when I get the keyboard?
-
Don't dance while holding your keyboard which is plugged in.

soldering is not the problem its the USB not having anything from the sides and from the rear holding it in place..... yes you can do something, purchase Gorila glue from Amazon, open the case and add from the glue on both left and right side and also at the rear, that should fix it either for life or for very long time. Havent done anything to mein, USB is fine..... but then its for home use and I don't plug and unplug constantly.

Zero problems with mine in the past year. Used daily by my wife. Mine isn't glued, either. If/when it does break, I'll just solder a USB cable right to the PCB and be done with it. They made an unfortunate design choice, but it is what it is. The supplied cable is form over function (stiff cable, large connector body), which adds even more stress to the little connector. I just use a cheapo USB cable that I had which is much more flexible and has a shorter connector body to reduce the risk of having issues.
