Title: Your thoughts on TTE (ThermalTake) Mechanicals
Post by: ShakeR on Fri, 15 March 2013, 13:05:51
We'll likely be offering a full line of TTE soon.  The G1s are all Costar which I know GHers go nuts over, but the frames on the newer 'G Units' aren't the simplest of form factors (not sure ODM on these either).

Any opinions?

Personally if it was my call I would only carry the G1 variants. I think the others are made by solidyear, I think who also responsible for the Corsair, Logitech and CM TK. Then also how well do your other keyboards with black switch sell, since that is all Tt come in that should be a high consideration too.

Meka and Meka G-Unit are made by iRocks. Quite solid keyboards, but I'm not a fan. The G-Unit is too gimmicky, and they've ruined the 96layout on Meka.

The Meka G1 is a Costar CST-104 "Sydney" and a solid board with the lowest damn quality keycaps ever. I mean really, really solid. The kind that makes it a slap in the face to put such garbage keycaps on. HOPEFULLY they fixed the broken debounce. Oh, and ALL of the G1's are Costar CST-104's. Including combat white, Illuminated, and the G1 Prime. (So yeah, backlit Costar, blah blah.) But dear gods, they are the lowest quality keycaps ever.

The blacks on the Meka G1 are by far the sweetest blacks I've ever typed on

I agree with this!  The MX Blacks in the G1 feel like they are lighter than most stock Black switches.  They do not feel half way between Red and Blacks but feel 5g'ish lighter than Blacks.  Either they've got some lube / lighter springs or they are installed at such a perfect typing angle that they lose a lot of the gritty feeling you can sometimes get.

While I agree the keycaps aren't the best, the excellent feeling of the particular switches on the G1 make up for it.

If you want better keycaps - that's what the accessories page on mechanicalkeyboards.com is for. ;)

I believe iRocks use Solid Year as OEM as well.

I'd personally only stock the Meka G1s. I've never seen someone with anything else and I wouldn't personally buy anything else.

Yep, lsusb output suggests that. At least the Meka is slightly modified iRocks design though, and G-Unit is more or less the same.
