Is there someone still using it? I just bought one for my child, because is price is so good compare with other consoles, but she is not using it much just after a month, but now I am so into it that I becoming a wiicolic, which is very bad for my age :D
-
I jailbroke mine or whatever they call it. I now can play DVDs and load games from an external HDD which is nice.
-
That is a nice thing to do but all the procedures I found are long and a torture to do. I just got Tomb Rider Anniversary and Red Steel 2 that I found to be one of the best games for the Wii, I'll post some impressions after I have tried them for any one interested. I know there are very well documented reviews out there, even with video, but I will try to add something over what it is still available.

My kids love the Wii. We still play it a ton.

Good to know that, do you have a favorite game?

The Lego Star Wars games are a lot of fun, and Mario Galaxy.

I've heard very good things about the star wars the complete saga, is it that what you have? there is also the clones version.
-
Personally I vastly prefer the complete saga version to the clone wars. But my kids love both equally.
-
Pikmin! It's all about Pikmin.
-
Used to love that on GameCube.

wii has lately gotten used, wife is playing the 2012 j-rpgs
last story (finished)
xenoblade... something.
other than that, maybe a virtual console game once in a while, otherwise it's... just not that good.

I will try to get a copy of the complete saga.

I think all those are classified as mature games, aren't they?

No, though I don't recall if you can use the Retro controller or if you have to use a GC controller. I know you must use the memory card unless you hack an emulated one once jailbroken.

I do not get that, probably to old to understand it :)

Found a softmod guide (http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/96886-guide-softmod-any-wii.html). I need to update my Wii from 4.1 to 4.3, mainly for the shop channel and Netflix. I need an easy to set up streaming console. My Xbox requires $60/year plus Netflix charges (I hate you too M$), and my Wii is prime for the picking for this purpose. Also, Pikmin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pikmin_(series)) was one of the most successful Nintendo console games on Gamecube next to probably Mario Cart or similar.

Interesting finding, and how the upgrade could be flashed in the console?

You need a computer, your Wii, an SD Card(preferably not SDHC), and a few hours of your time.

Retro controllers connected via cables.
-
Do you mean the Retro controller that plugs into the Wii-mote?
Also, speaking of Retro controllers, have you guys heard of the RetroPad? It's a PCB, headed by an Atmel, that allows you to use all you old controllers (NES, SNES, PSX, PS2, GameCube, N64, Neo Geo, and Sega Saturn control pads). Saw it on HackaDay a while back, though I found the actual site and Gitorious from the guy.
Git here (http://gitorious.org/wii-retropad-adapter)
Blog post here. (http://www.brunofreitas.com/node/40)

Also, parts for the different adapter cables for the RetroPad are typically from extension cables for said console. For instance, the SNES controller adapter came from something like such... SNES Extension Cable (http://www.amazon.com/Extension-Cable-Super-Nintendo-Controller/dp/B005WMIR4C/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1363621203&sr=1-1&keywords=snes+extension+cable). I would imagine that each console has something similar, so you can make all the different adapter cables you'd like.

Yea, I found some at ebay, very cheap by the way, at leas the ones that are aftermarket.

The primary use for my Wii is Netflix.

Do you need to have it hacked to use with netflix? I am not sure if I have seen that channel already in the included ones.
-
You just need to grab it off the Wii Shop Channel. It's free, I think.
-
get this

for the wii, controller is just so awesome, i have the old gamecube controllers as well (real, not crappy madcatz) and this one "feels" better, better than the xbox and even than the ps3 imo.

well a kid can play it i guess, mature? no they're just regular j-rpg's, nothing super freaky like shin megai or whatever. the main character was running around in swim trunks for like hours, i asked my wife and she said that it just happens to be the best armor (like oil armor or something). other than that, nothing from memory seems mature, no.

To anyone softmodding! From what I've read today, do NOT update to 4.3. You can get all the features of 4.3 (which is only USB Camera Support) via an IOS loader program. I'll be installing the newest shop channel this weekend so that I can finally get Netflix back.

Good tip, thank you, this is very important because if I understood that well the system can not be downgraded.

You can... its just sketchy.

Good to know that then, I am just getting into it so I am not well informed yet.

Yeah me too, I softmodded my Wii, gosh... must have been 2 years ago now. Wow.
So now I'm looking to upgrade everything. Ugh.

You could also play Wii games in an emulator called Dolphin, even virtual console games, if you have a powerful machine.
