Title: Why are the enter keys always so small?
Post by: yester64 on Mon, 18 March 2013, 20:33:33
In the old days, enter keys were big. Now i found a keyboard that has a big enter key (steelseries 6GV2). However i do wonder if there are other keyboards on the market that offer a big enter key too.
Why is it important? Well, to me its just easier to hit the enter key. That way you can not miss a important key as the enter key.
I am not even sure if someone is agreeing with me on that but i really wish that keyboard would have bigger enter keys. I am still looking for a good brown switch keyboard with big enter key. :)

I am indifferent to a bigass Enter key, but I don't mind it. I seldom use Backslash/Pipe so its size and location are not critical to me.

My problem is that I always seem to use the left half of the Backspace key, and since most bigass Enters come with a small Backspace, that is the one that ruins it for me.

Too bad you aren't an Alps fan, a lot of the good old Alps boards have larger Enters of various flavors.

Well, i had a horrible experience with a ducky black alps switch. ok, it was dirt cheap so it may not represent every alp key out there. But i am open to suggestions. I am not a clicky fan light blue switches from cherry.
The backspace key on this keyboard (the steelseries) is ok sized. The shift key is a little small but still usable.
Honestly i think i don't mind an old style big keyboard so that keys are bigger. Today everything seems to been shrunken to fit everything in the small space.

Focus FK2001 has the huge enter and I think 1x2 backspace.

What's the name of that MX blue keyboard from India? Is it the Goldtouch, or is that another one? That huge enter key is still fairly common.

Sounds like you want an ISO based keyboard.

I really really really hate the bigass enter. However it is still very popular in Korea...

The fact that it's the only key that is two rows tall barring keys on the numpad seems to me like a good enough indication that there's something wrong with it! :D

It's also nice to have some separation between backspace and enter so you don't send a message or command that has mistakes accidentally when trying to hit backspace.

I'll bite.

Anybody who doesn't use a bigass Enter key doesn't know s***t. Large Enter keys were on the keyboard layout brought off the mountain by Moses. Everything else is for hunt-n-pecker noobs. Most importantly, chicks dig guys with large Enter keys. It's been scientifically proven that guys who use large Enter keys are well endowed and much more fertile. In fact, a study done in 2004 by Cooper and Hawkins, using a pool of 5600 participants, demonstrated that ISO layout users get hot chicks 43% more than ANSI layout users.

However, in 2010, Cooper and Hawkins, assisted with correct calculations by using a PC, revised their findings and concluded that Topre switch users (both Realforce and HHKB) actually were responsible for taking the top 9% of the hot babe pool of available women. Turns out, the initial incorrect calculations were run on a Mac, hampered by user input errors by data entry personnel using Apple brand keyboards for data entry.

Can't argue with science fellas.

They are the default keys that come on that keyboard.

Yes they are the stock keycap. Polycarbonate with pad printing, there is also other version of that keyboard with clear keycap and orange legend.

The Indian keyboard is called "TVS Gold". Inexpensive ... in India, but relatively cheaply made. Pad-printed keys.

The Goldtouch is rubber dome, but split. The original split, adjustable ergonomic keyboard. You can lock the angles with a lever. Real nice for a rubber dome.
