Title: [IC] StarCrafts Keycaps for ESC and F1-F12 (if possible)
Post by: chenga91 on Thu, 21 March 2013, 19:31:23: What's up, y'all. To my knowledge, there aren't any more Starcraft keycap group buys due to licensing issues. How about a group buy with Carbot Animation's drawings of Starcraft units? I find his Zerg units the most adorable. :) Videos can be found here:

If there's interest, I'll try contacting the guy behind Carbot if this would be okay to do and if he's willing to provide us with 4 units of each race (for the F-keys) and maybe an extra Zergling in a different pose (cuz they so damn cute) or maybe his Star Crafts logo for the ESC key.

Do you think this is feasible? I understand custom key makers need the design to be in a certain file format for them to work on it. Ideally, I'd like to get Dyesub PBTs.

Hehe the infestor is my favorite too. But I think the zergling will read best on a keycap.

Sorry couldn't help it haha.
I think the infestor is pretty funny. That would be great for a cap.

I have an idea... F1 is a larva or egg. Somewhere in the middle is a ling. Then a profile view of the ling as if it was running. Near the end is a marine and at the end, the marine gets attacked by the ling. Like a mini slide show.

So there's 16 keys in that set pictured. As you can might notice its a pshopped picture from Portal 2.0. That set was designed to go across the entire top of a tenkeyless board, so this would work just the same for the Esc row version. Unfortunately, even if one was to fill their entire ZXCV row and arrow keys, that only amounts to 14 keys. Is everyone fine with me just offering a set for each profile and the one for the lower profile has a couple of extra keys so that you can pick your favorites? I could offer two different sets, one 14 and one 16, but that seems pretty dumb tbh.

I ran into the slight problem of not finding interesting enough art for some of the races. Zerg has the cutest and funniest ones, so they were easy, but Terran and Protoss haven't been shown as much. I could swap the Pikachu ling for a Ghost or something.

However, I did get an email back from Carbot. The news isn't encouraging. He basically said no because he's in an agreement with Blizzard for merchandising, but I'm trying to talk to Blizzard and him further about it to see if I can finally get an okay from Blizzard to do this and other stuff.

Only three terran keys and one terran/zerg? I think pikazergling should be a key by itself not in the set, and replace it with the ghost. Or 5 of each race and one shared. I also still think a spacebar that is a wide shot fight scene would be amazing.

Zerg - 7 keys
Terran - 3 keys
T/Z Shared - 1

None of that really matters anymore though since it now fits in the "untouchable outside of China" segment of keys we want. I talked to Imsto about it already and he said he has no interest in selling them because he finds them uninteresting.
