Title: KBT Race 75% Mechanical Keyboard Cherry MX Milk switches
Post by: forzetk0 on Sat, 23 March 2013, 08:39:39
Hello Geekhack community!

I want to purchase KBT Race 75% (with LED back light). In general - is KBT Race good keyboard ? (i am new to mechanical keyboards).

I want to buy one with Blue MX Switches but can`t find any, so on ebay i found this http://www.ebay.com/itm/KBT-Race-75-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Milk-switches-with-PBT-Caps-/271176242726?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f235d1626 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/KBT-Race-75-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Milk-switches-with-PBT-Caps-/271176242726?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f235d1626)

Do you guys know if this one has LED on it ? (seller is not answering to my messages) 8(

As i understand MX Milk/White is the same as Blue but less noisy ? I am going to use this keyboard for typing./coding/gaming

Thanks for all your help!

I had a KBT Race for a short period (returned because Blue was too noisy). Whites however, are much more quiet and I probably would have kept it if it was MX White.

PROS:
- Small-form keyboard with function and arrow keys
- Adjustable LED [brightness + WASD option]
- Very bright LEDs on highest brightness
- Sexy case with small bezel
- Removable USB cord

CONS:
- Certain custom sized keys are difficult (or pretty much impossible) to replace
- Very difficult to contact manufacturer [Vortex]
- [YMMV] Heavy typists may experience chipped clear coat on keys over time link (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=40393.0)
- [YMMV] Some earlier models experienced LED inconsistency, but to my knowledge the newer stock has less problems with this. [Nobody is complaining anymore, so I assume it has been corrected somehow]
- A little bit on the expensive side for a Cherry MX keyboard

OTHER:
- PCB mounted switches [can be either pro or con depending how you look at it]

It looks like that eBay seller accepts returns, so if you don't like it I guess you could pay the shipping back to Hong Kong.

I only see one photo on the auction, so it's hard to tell. You'll want to ask the seller and have them send you a photo of the keyboard lit up to be sure.

Whoa, I just noticed that it doesn't say if it has LEDs or not. That is weird. They DO make these without LEDs, so that is also a possibility. Yeah, I would definitely ask for more information before buying this.

What does that mean ? Can you give me a link so i could read the difference ? (or you could give short explanation ?)

P.S.

I did asked Seller but no replies.

Guys, what do you think about http://www.ebay.com/itm/290872817560?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/290872817560?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619) ?

Thanks!

Switches can be mounted onto a metal plate over a PCB (circuit board) or directly to the PCB. Basically, plates are for added rigidity for heavier typists.

I think race with pbt caps are without LEDs as far as I know.....

I've had a white switch race for about a month, one screw came lose just upon arrival and there is a cold joint in one of the switches so it sometimes won't register......
Overall I think race is a decent keyboard with some quality issues(or it is just me), and the pbt key caps are nowhere near as good as cherry's.

Personally I would suggest you go for poker and change those abs caps to some nice pbt caps, if you don't really need separate function or arrow keys, since it is cheaper and even smaller.

Thanks you for reply!

I actually do need arrow keys and LED.
