Title: row offsets - why doesnt the ergodox have them?

Just built my ergodox.. having a hard time typing due to the lack of row offsets.. was this on purpose?

Maybe give it a week or two for your hands to adjust. Split hands and row alignment is VERY different than your typical keyboard. After all, it's designed to be ergonomic.

Staggered roll layout has descended from mechanical typewriter design, where it is necessary to avoid mechanical arms from hitting each other. The staggering is inherently unergonomic because it requires more finger and wrist movement. Ergonomic keyboards such as Ergodox, Kinesis Contour, Maltron, Truly Ergonomic and others has strength column keys because it is an ergonomically superior design.

Yeah, a columnar layout will force you to learn to touch type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touch_typing).
I noticed that when I got my Kinesis. I went back to a normal QWERTY though, and I still don't touch type correctly, but I noticed that I use all my fingers more now than before.
