Title: Red Outline on the QFR w/ MX Reds
Post by: Brown on Wed, 03 April 2013, 21:41:26
Didn't want to make a thread just for this, but I was wondering is there QFRs with Cherry MX Red switches that have no red coloured backplate/red outline?  It's the only thing that is keeping me from buying one of these keyboards.  Would the older ones have it by any chance? Thanks in advance!

No, I believe all of the QFRs with Reds have a red switchplate.

so far that we know the new batches will go like this

red switch - red plate
blue switch - blue plate
brown switch - brown plate

and so on.........

Also, what you could do is buy one, desolder all the switches, get your hands on a WFD Universal plate, and put that back together. No more red plate, and now you can swap switches easily if you so choose.

That's what I was thinking I had to do, however I don't want to end up breaking my board going through that process and have no keyboard in the end.  Might just end up with a Filco if that's how it's going to be.

You could commission someone who is knowledgeable in this kind of stuff to do it for you.
