This thread is for showing off your rPi projects, either completed or in progress or suggesting/helping others with projects!
So i've been meaning to broaden my horizons techie-wise, and i've never done anything with circuitry, soldering, linux etc. Anybody have any cool, simple ideas a raspberry pi could be used for? Either version A or B would work, as I don't have any of the equipment as of yet.
Total cost would be well kept under 100 bucks, not including a decent soldering iron or other "reusable" materials. I know a lot of people use it for a simple media center, which might be a good starter project as I'd probably utilize that anyways!
let the creative juices flow!

I was using my RPI as Mediacenter, but it couldn't handle BR. Might turn it into a mail server. haven't decided on it yet.

if possible i'd like to get it hooked up with some amazon prime type program, netflix, etc. we just kicked the cable so we're looking for alternatives out the wazoo to make up for it. Pain is that we don't watch much tv passively, but there are some shows that we hate to miss like Dr. Who, Sherlock, and Game of Thrones.
Amazon Prime takes care of the kid show content. Dora and spongebob play like all day long at our house.

Not a interesting project perhaps, but I have been using a RPi as my primary desktop machine at home for a couple of months now. This partially stems from my gaming rig dying , me realizing I wasn't gaming anyway, and wanting a lower power right to post/read/code on.
That all said the RPi has worked fine for this need as I don't ask much of it. I think my next chance to get a RPi might lead me to get a PC with a small monitor for the garage. Having been working on more keyboard projects lately that involve a Teensy has gotten me to drag out the laptop more than I would like. Mounting a RPi and a small monitor in the garage would be a fine substitue.

i have a backburner project i'd like to try that involves building a software defined radio and vector analyzer with an rpi to reverse engineer tpms protocols. the sticking point is finding an appropriate cheap RF board :(
