Almost all the commercial O-rings from places like McMaster-Carr or these http://www.ebay.com/itm/200380989022?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/200380989022?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649) are always much harder grades.
Personally, I think that the softer the better, and dental bands (for braces) are pretty nice. My daughter had braces, and her leftovers came in very handy. Something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clear-1-8-6-5-Oz-Orthodontic-Elastic-for-Braces-Dental-Rubber-Bands-/310604161429?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4851736195 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Clear-1-8-6-5-Oz-Orthodontic-Elastic-for-Braces-Dental-Rubber-Bands-/310604161429?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4851736195) might work, but maybe somebody else could verify the size.

I always just get these from Amazon:
http://amzn.com/B0051XWXCE (http://amzn.com/B0051XWXCE)
They feel exactly the same (to me) as WASD's 50A rings, and are about half the price.

yeah i've heard of the orthodontic before, how do those feel/soften noise?
otherwise thanks for suggestions, i appreciate it.
i was thinking 40a-r because i believe they're softer than 50a just wasnt sure what other good substitutes were
thanks

I found an assortment pack from a $1 store that had a few in 16 different sizes. Some hardware stores should have them, though depending on the quantity they carry, they might charge up to 50cents for 1.

Or you can always make some yourself as said here http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=28708.0 there is even video on how to make them.

My feeling is that the orthodontic bands are thinner and softer than any of the commercial rings, that is why I like them. They have less effect than anything else.
