Title: tenkeyless + media keys
Post by: arplod on Mon, 08 April 2013, 18:29:33
Not actually hugely bothered if it's mechanical or not, but was wondering if there was a compact tenkeyless keyboard around with media keys - i.e. a volume encoder/buttons, play/pause/mute/ffwd/rwd buttons. Links please if you have'em.

I forgot to put 'dedicated'. I assume you have to press FN to get those keys to work...?

Filco Multicam also has a TKL variety with media keys.

Once again I was wondering how that worked - Fn to get function keys (which I will use) or media features? Either way, not ideal.

Dedicated is hard.  FN+ is easy.  PLU ML-87, Filco, CM, etc. all do I believe.

Yeah. That's why I'm asking.

Ideally something like a Sidewinder X6 minus numeric pad, but more compact all round.

Kinda like this:

I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with function media keys (besides placement of the function keys. I must be in the minority of those who actually use the menu key for context menus when I'm typing...), but the only Mechanical keyboards with dedicated media keys would be those which you program them yourselves (IE Phantom, GH60. Does the KMAC have the ability to program actual media keys without using function?).

As I said, I'm not really bothered whether it's mechanical or not - I don't really see them as much, if at all, better (beyond the really ropey domes) so I'm fine with dome, scissor, mech, capacitive...

... well, maybe not ALPS or buckling spring.

I just want a tenkeyless with dedicated media controls. Wired or wireless is also fine, but I'd prefer wired.

only one I can think of is the (God forbid) Apple keyboard...

Edit: Never mind, had a brain fart and recommended a full size keyboard :(

Nope, it's the same as the others mentioned (even if I could stand the wrong key layout in my language, and one of the worse scissor-actions on the market) in that it's also either/or.
