In.

Saturday is probably the best for me, aside from the weekend of 5/4, I'm pretty much good given enough notice.

I'm originally from upstate NY and I'll be back at the end of May. If you guys end up having a date then, I could swing by. But I wouldn't have most of my boards. I'll only have my Pure if I attend.

I can probably come most weekdays after work if it's around midtown/times square, especially on Fridays. Weekends are iffier, and I'd prefer something closer in Brooklyn. I don't drive and would need to lug some keyboards of interest that weigh a metric ton :p

Well, you can go to a public restaurant that serves alcohol when you're only 17, you just can't drink.  I dunno if you can go into to a bar though.

I'm definitely in for the meet-up.  So please add me to the Attending List.  Weekends are great for me, either Saturday or Sunday.  (Please don't pick a holiday weekend, because that will cause conflicts with a lot of people.)

I can't wait to see them custom keyboards!  (I would bring a keyboard, but I don't have anything unusual to show off, except maybe my Desko keyboard, if anybody would be interested in seeing it.)

Avenue A and St. Marks, East Village/Alphabet City.
Food isn't terrible, not too far from subway.  Cheap Sushi, has beer/sake.
The wee laddies/lassies who are underage can still hang while the older set can day drink? (Still voting for Sunday)

i'm ok with St marks area.. but will there be enough room for us to try out the keyboard there?
maybe lunch first and then another place where we can plug in a laptop to test them out maybe ?

The best place i know of that's open to the public is
Citigroup Center
153 E 53rd St, New York, NY 10022 (map)

Tables are large although they won't allow you to plugin your laptops. And also the location isn't the most convienant for many people including myself.

Any place like that around union square / st marks ?

Last year's meet was fun, I'm in for it it again. Don't have anything keyboard wise to really offer anymore, but I can bring my Hi-fi gear :P.

May I suggest these two places? I'll only be 20 next month, so no bars please xD

Bosie Tea Parlor (http://www.yelp.com/biz/bosie-tea-parlor-new-york) - A nice casual place with some great tea. I've been there a few times. The food is okay, but a bit pricey. There should be enough seating as long as we make a reservation.

Capital One 360 Cafe (http://www.yelp.com/biz/capital-one-360-café-new-york) - An even more casual place. They don't really have food there aside from cookies, biscottis and that sort. They have really cheap coffee and tea though, and they taste pretty good. Though they have two floors, the seating is kinda spaced out.

On a side note, is anyone else going to the NY head-fi meet next weekend?

Prefer to have a spot that's not trying to kick us out after 50minutes. Like a open space type of thing and food/drinks afterwards we get geeked out. Lol

Riverside park is a pretty nice place to hang out, and there are plenty of restaurants around that we can go to afterwards. Otherwise there's my school campus in Long Island, but I doubt anyone would want to drive all the way over there, and the food there is complete **** 90% of the time >.>.

Location suggestion:

http://nerdnyc.com/wordpress/faq

I have NO IDEA about these people, I just found them in a web search. Seems like they have some space, maybe they could host the event -- they might even be interested in seeing the keyboards as well.

Don't know if I'll be able to attend this one -- gotta see how my schedule works out, but I will try!  :)

Meet ups have never been about showing off the rarest/hottest boards. It's all about hanging out with some cool GH bros/sisses. Doesn't matter if you're new or you have 1 board or even no boards. At the Chicago meet, dante didn't bring a board.

No, last year's NYC meet was held in sunset park (Brooklyn). But my dad did used to work at a dim sum restaurant in Flushing too.

I didn't read through all this, but what's wrong with doing this at Central Park? You don't need outlets for keyboards. Just bring a laptop if you want to power up a keyboard. Attach a few keyboards to each laptop (USB HUBs can be used if necessary, assuming there are way more keyboards than laptops. If you are scared of running out of power for the laptops, you can charge them at nearby locations. You can also use laptops in three groups. After one group of laptop runs out of battery, then switch it out for another group.

people would probably need to chip in a little bit, but i don't think this meetup is going to be massive, so a conference room should do :)

I think the only problem with this would be that it would take place in a very crowded and public place. also it would be outside. I'm not sure if i think that is the best thing to do
good input though :)

We can borrow some seats from other rooms if they are not occupied... As for the rent, $15 for each if we have 10 participants is not bad at all.

Gah, so upsetting -- there used to be a LAN party cafe called 'Neutral Ground' not far from my place in NYC. It would have been perfect. The way I see it, the ideal location has room for a net party of some kind, maybe some snacks, a pool table, etc.

Well, give us your school schedule.  I guess we can do it during Canadian Thanksgiving, whenever that is.

@dubs:  $800 for a whole day to host 50 people in Manhattan (albeit Harlem) is an unbelievably low price.  It's a whole floor of a townhouse.  Also Sylvia's Soul Food Restaurant is like 3 blocks away.  Best chicken & waffles you will ever have.  We could even have lunch catered.  But, to split $800 among 5 or 6 people would be kind of high, I guess.

There are smaller places that we could rent.

Here is what we need:

1.  We need a firm date.
2.  Then we can set an RSVP date.
3.  Then we can put together a confirmed guest list.
4. Then we can find a place that fits our needs.  (A conference room for 10 people will be a lot cheaper than a townhouse for 50.)_
5. Then we tell people how much it will cost.
6.  Then we can send out invoices.

now that school is full throttle again for myself, thanksgiving break sounds like the best time for me as well.
I think we need an organized list of people who are seriously interested in coming, so we can get a realistic number, and then start hunting for a smart location based on that number.

But, to split $800 among 5 or 6 people would be kind of high, I guess.

that's totally what i was thinking about seeing the $800 price lol, but i agree with you.

it boils down to unless someone wants to host it at their place, its gonna be difficult to find a location where we can all meet up and not disturb other people.

maybe see if we can rent a meeting room at a library or something, but then you get into having to pay to meet and some people won't wanna do that .

I don't care where we go as long as we go get beers after.
that tab in NYC will be ridiculous!
Friday night ran me $100 for 2 bars lol.
I'll chill at the bar i guess and play with my gh60 and drink some root beer
yea know cause that's cool too

You wouldn't be allowed into the bar, you'd be chilling outside drinking your root beer and playing with your gh60
and the security guard would look at you funny

Bars and restaurants usually bad place for meet up. Just not enough room.

There are tons of bars and clubs that are 18 (or less) to enter in NYC. A few of them don't check ID's, but let's not worry about those.  ;)

Updates? I'm starting planning for second semester of school, college process and all that. I'm wanting to show off my keyboards to people who get them.

Hmm... maybe change the thread title to [Meet-Up] NYC Meet-up Spring 2014 xD

If people feel like driving/taking the train all the way to Stony Brook University, there's space in my dorm for a meet.

Usual NYC digs are in Bensonhurst but I think maybe a Flushing/Bronx trip might be in order ;D. I'll post an update when I know what's going on.
