Title: IBM Model M15 problem
Post by: Kscorps on Tue, 09 April 2013, 17:55:11
Hey Geekhack,

So, I'll make this as short as possible. The knob on my Model M15 will not turn past a fraction of a revolution (I can still turn it a little bit,) after my first few days of owning it. Will a lubricant such as WD-40 sprayed onto the screw loosen it up enough to be removed? Trying to get the thing into shape for sale, and I don't want to break anything by forcing it. I am not sure about which oil to use, as I don't know what type of plastic the M!5 is made of.

By the way, the keys feel superb. It's my first experience with buckling springs, though I'd rather own a regular M.

There is enough space for me to wiggle it to fit a thin nozzle or straw into. Thanks guys!

Some lubricants are corrosive to plastics, I would be very careful using something like wd40.

That's why I'm waiting until I can figure out what I can do to move that knob. I'm betting it's a type of plastic that I can use it with, but I cannot take any risks until I am fully sure of what I am working with.

Even if its a bit tight, you should have no trouble selling. I for one have been looking for a reasonable one for months.

I've put it up for sale here, though I don't have enough posts for classifieds.

It's on my watchlist, though the reserve is a bit ominous.

WD40 isn't a lubricant, it's more for displacing water
