Title: Skeldon-Ace 60% Size
Post by: boost on Wed, 10 April 2013, 15:42:51: Since the prototyping is finishing up on the Skeldon-GH I'm also working on this case. Ace will work for poker/GH60

Sending out for prototype this week and will have a quicker turn around since this is only 1 piece :D

Ah so this is why you asked me for standoff positions. I'll PM it to you as soon as I source the correct standoff and redraw my case.

Are they going to be screw-on or permanently attached (milled around standoff locations)?

The cost is a valid concern. But people have built lots of stuff out of brass, and for a long time. The fact that you can easily nick it or dent it could give it a bit of character as well... I'm just picturing the case after a few years of use... looking sort of old and you know, antiqued. Would look very cool with some zinc / pewter caps.

If this can't happen here, then someone with some 3D design skills should definitely make a brass QFR / Filco case IC.

I can only imagine the shipping rates though... it would cost me somewhere around 60 bucks to ship a brass thing of this size to NY via USPS.

and are mostly being made as decoratives due to its gold-like appearance.
and also, Brass does not rust, it will tarnish over time and can be polished back to shine (the tarnishing effect can also be visually appreciated)

The default one is currently set to 8 degrees. The screenshots I showed was 3 degrees. I personally prefer 11 degrees >.>

I wrote that before looking. I didn't mean the angle based off the base, I just meant, kind of like the plate is level with the top of the case.

Sorry I guess I lagged too much in giving standoff coordinates and you somehow got your own measurements huh? :(

Nah no worries, boost was able to provide me some info but I wanted to doublecheck etc. Since I told him I'll get the files to him by the end of the week I decide to just go off of what I had, which SHOULD be okay.

btw, then installation would be just solder your PCB to the custom plate and mount the plate "on" the case and it's done?

Running Internet Explorer? Ew :P you must have a tank for a rig though with all that stuff running at once, Solodworks, Chrome(being the leaky RAM powerhouse) and IE all at once, not to mention LoL.

Getting back on topic ... will the Skeldon-Ace 60% have that Skeldon logo on the inside similar to the Phantom version? Since the 60% is going to have standoffs, I'm under the impression it won't have the "swirls" since the Phantom plate screws down to the bottm portion of the case.

Pretty much what wfd said. This is a 1 off cost when its time for production it will be cheaper, wayyyy cheaper.

Oh and one question, is the dip switch hole a popular demand? This was created for GH60 in mind so there's no NEED for it, and it looks ugly if you don't have dip switches lol. Without it will shave off some machine time.

For HHKB layouts, the best looking ones has a dedicated top to cover the bottom corners. Additional blockers are possible, but they may not look pretty hm...

You need the hole on the bottom for the GH60 so you can press the switch which activates the bootloader. :)

agre, not a huge fan of these blockers as well. make it a two piece case than. :)

The blockers as a part of the plate for the low profile is a possibility though.

I'm guessing since the fullsize is still in the works, this is on hold? Or maybe just way too many 60% cases out atm. Although I'm still waiting for a 60% GH60 case....lowpro brass...hehe
