Title: CM Quickfire Rapid - Swapping Keys
Post by: saadro on Tue, 16 April 2013, 20:21:13
Hey guys,

Has anyone had any experience with remapping/moving the FN key on this board? I'd really like to swap the FN and Right-CTRL keys.

I haven't had any success with the AHK/HID methods.

Thanks.

I think that the FN key is purely handled by the hardware.

Fn keys don't send scancode, it is not possible to remap it with such things, hardware modding would be required.

Has anyone successfully performed such a mod on this board?

A quick search found this thread which seems related at first glance. Maybe it will help.

It's actually REALLY easy to do..

Basically, You just scratch the traces, and do a cross over with the nearby key...

Like, this is super easy.... ANYONE can do it..

Thanks guys.

That sounds like me  :D

Apologies, I'm very new to all of this.

Is there a similar guide somewhere? Much appreciated.

I'm just re-learning how to use modifiers as I've always used my left hand for CTRL and ALT, and tendinitis is starting to be a problem for me these days (failing that, next step is possibly a Kinesis Advantage, but that's another story).

there's no guide.. you "scratch-out" a small section of the 4 traces that lead up to the 2 switches you want to swap.. THEN you cross wire.. this should be quite straightforward once you take apart the keyboard.

If they're on the same row, you only really need to jump the 2 leads on the column.
Edit, just so people don't misunderstand. you jump the wire from the column you want to move to the lead that connects to the old column. Then you cut the trace on the old column to the switch.

While there's no danger in doing this..  you can just use windows key remapper to swap windows n ctrl,  my point is, it's an extra step that doesn't warrant the effort..

this keyboard isn't going anywhere...

Yep, that's a fair point. I've just swapped the CTRL and Windows Key via remapping. I'll see how that goes for now.

Thanks for the advice.
