Title: [IC] What would you be willing to pay for blank or side print black POM keycaps?
Post by: dante on Wed, 17 April 2013, 21:13:19: Someone on the forums might be able to source these but they might need a bit of a financial incentive. I'd like to think there would be enough demand for 50 sets of 104 blank or side print black POM keycaps. I may even contact MechanicalKeyboards.com and see if they would be interested in helping bulk up the ordering numbers.

Please answer these question(s):

1. How much would you be willing to pay tops?

2. How many sets would you order? How would price reflect this?

3. Do you prefer blank or side print?

If you have no intention of paying please do not reply.

Sorry - all three requests are not possible. This would be a standard 104 set like most sets you see for sale.

From what I understand most manufacturers make POM for their own keyboard; it's difficult enough as it is to get them to sell them separately.

It's important to differentiate that the DAS 2 had POM keycaps, the DAS 3 are all ABS.

I know whats the difference between abs and pbt, but whats so special about pom keycaps?

POM have a special feel to them. They feel a bit wet/slick like they are made out of oil but still have a nice soft texture.

Very unique feeling, not for everyone.

Also I don't know about POM wearing faster than PBT! Technical information is provided by limmy here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=26646.msg553377#msg553377) (POM = 3*PBT = 60*ABS, in terms of wear rate).

I'm asking for black with side prints right now, but I'm not sure what else Keycool offers (their product page indicates that its possible to get other colours for side prints, but I think those are PBT). They're not that thick though, but I think they sound and feel great, even compared to the thick PBT on the Noppoo.

No. I tried to convince one individual in China to import some but that didn't work out. I'm hoping someone out there who is listening and has connections can try to get a factory to help a brother out. I have no issues running a group buy for these, taking money, packing product; I'm unable to communicate with companies in China.

Depends, Noppoo's lasering is quite nice, and tbh the lasering on the Dell boards we have at work are impressive... the keys are shining like mad, but the lasering is STILL holding up very well.

Polyoxymethylene aka Delrin. It's a thermoplastic used in the manufacture of some keycaps.

PBT's pretty big too: polybutylene tetraphthalate.

Better is subjective. lower coefficient of friction so its an inherently more slippery plastic, but theoretically has better wear characteristics to PBT. Really depends if you like the slipperiness vs PBT, which is the big factor.

They are slippery like that but with additional texture.

MechanicalKeyboards.com can't get a hold of PLUM and I can't speak Chinese to contact Noppoo/Keycool.

Sherryton if you're looking for another hard to find and unique product with absolutely no competition for your empire this is it!

I have an awesome set of blank POM Jellies and love the feel, but would prefer to have something more understated. Anything other than the jellies are impossible to find from US vendors though.
