Title: looking for new keyboard
Post by: titelo on Sat, 20 April 2013, 13:19:39
Hi, my current keyboard is near to be out of service, the space key almost don't work, letters on A, S, L, M, N have gone, and i need to hit the keys always harder...

it's time for buying a new one ^^

This what i'm looking for :
Flat keyboard like on laptop, very very  silent !!! key with no need to hit them like a barbarian to have effect. An indestructible keyboard ! usb plug (no cordless ! )

i can spend about 100$

thanks in advance

Das makes great keyboards for around your price range, and silent!

Das was my first mechanical keyboard.  They are very nice boards, however, I won't buy one again for the following reasons.

1. that annoying gloss finish they have, it just sucks.
2. they don't make tenkeyless keyboards.

Of all the mechanical keyboards I've tried, (cherry MX), Das is up there in quality and build, nothing bad to say about them in that regard.  If you like full size keyboards and the glossy plastic, this is probably the keyboard for you.

I don't know of any mechanical keyboards that are flat like a key board, and even the quiet mechanical switches are still pretty loud compared to rubber dome

Cherry ML or Topre Shortthrow is pretty flat.

If you are looking from a flat keyboard like the ones on laptops, then you have come to the wrong place. Flat keyboards are usually either scissor switches or membranes. If you are okay with not getting a flat keyboard, then you should look at mechanical keyboards with brown switches, clear switches, or Topre switches. Most mechanical keyboards are as close as you get to indestructible. They last up to about 50 million clicks and they have a much faster response time compared to membrane keyboards.

just spend the big money and get a realforce!  I've never seen them at a lower price than they are at right now.  go to elitekeyboards.

be warned though, although they're at the lowest price, they're still $250, best keyboard you'll ever type on.

If you want very very silent, I'd rule out all mechanical keyboards.  Even Matias Quiet Pro is not that quiet compare to scissor switch keyboards.

So this is what I'd suggest:
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Illuminated-Ultrathin-Keyboard-Backlighting/dp/B001F51G16/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1366606961&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+illuminated+keyboard

But if you manage to find deals like this then it would be even better:

Only drawback with this keyboard is that it doesn't have gaming matrix, so if you press 3-4 keys with a certain combination there is a chance that some keys might not register.  Though it mostly only happens in FPS when if you need to press something like run + jump + grenade + something else ALL AT THE SAME TIME.  In most other cases you'd rarely run into this.

Well since most laptops have gone to chiclet island style keyboards. Check out Apples USB keyboard. Or look at Lenovo's USB keyboard with trackpoint, wrist rest is built-in. The USB lenovo keyboard resembles their laptop keyboards prior to the chiclet island style they have all gone with now.
