Title: UPDATED Aluminiun case for PURE and RACE
Post by: i488 on Sun, 21 April 2013, 19:41:00: I find a local factotry and they managed to replicate the pure plastic case and made an aluminium one. about 95-100 usd
here are some pictures:
I am from china, the thin(flat bottom) version of pure case weigths about 200g and thickness is 2MM@side 2.5MM@bottom
pure with plastic base weithgs0.4-0.5kg, pure with my alu base weights 0.6kg.

I would. I'll all about the aluminum but plastic is nice when you're on the move and don't need the weight.

This is a sample ,I can still make changes if I want. I am not related to vortex at all. Vortex =kbc =Chinese distributor of pbt.

I will post more detailed pictures of it. Its not final, just a sample. I will see what I can improve.

PCB is not the problem, you can slide it in a an angle easily. But the case, it's not impossible, just highly impractical. WKL and HHKB will need the "floating" blocks, trying to mill something like this out is not cheap.

Ah yes, I suppose that floating the blocks would be expensive. Gotcha gotcha. I designed a winkeyless single piece case at one point for fun, which was easy enough. I didn't realize that the floating was an expensive milling problem.

On the Race, the USB connector is almost wedged in it's so tight.

RACE case had an accident when it was anodizing. will be finished soon.

I am not in a very good position to negotiate the price, somehow. And they didnt give a minimun number of production. Instead, the number must be divisible by 24.
And I am in china. the shipping can be pricey.
