Title: Click Clack Conspiracy Part 2
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 22 April 2013, 02:17:18
Ok. Here's my take.

Rarar is probably an "affiliate of click clack"

and that cap didn't really sell for $250..

what click clack DID DO, ingeniously is "created" a price tag for something that's otherwise worthless.

I still maintain all clickclacks are Ugly and worth less.. I don't hate the guy, I merely think many of you HAVE gone full retard for buying into this BS.. and generating this stupid market for it... suckering in people with no sense of value investment

And secondly, IF i am wrong about rarar... and he is a real person that's not puppet-ed by click clack, then he made the ONLY sane decision to sell a little piece of plastic to one of you idiots for $250..

Rarar did the right thing.... through and through  :D

How can something that regularly sells for over $100 and when offered at $30 sells out in leas than a second be worthless?

I don't think its a conspiracy. I think there are some people who will pay several hundred for a plastic keycap without someone creating a price tag for it.

"Worthless" != "worth less"
:)

Edit: Oops, I didn't read OP thoroughly, he does indeed use both. My apologies.

There is a semantic difference in meaning between worthless and worth less, so no, it's not just trolling. I could say that your post adds even less to the thread.

Also, if you had bothered to read the edit that I had made before you posted, I did make note of my mistake and apologized for it. But I guess I'm the "worthless peice (sic) of ****".

Lmao you really are thick as ****, yes... What I should have done is read your worthless dumb attempt at trolling, realised instinctively that you hadn't read the OP and was in the process of editing your originally worthless post.

Ohh and while we are on semantics, check out the context the genious OP used for 'worth less' and tell me that key caps are 'worth less' than 'ugly'.

Cheers

A retard makes a mistake because he's handicapped...

The rest of the clack-buyers make mistakes because they're stupid.

UNLESS you're one of the clack-affiliates who pump up the price of clacks... THEN you rank as genius in my book..

Everyone deep down knew those Red Cherry Esc keys were not worth $250... then BOOM... they were right....

I posted this thread because it would seem that some people are being manipulated into buying these clacks based on their future value...

Since people in the keyboard hobby do not have much disposable income to begin with.. I just really don't want to see people get shafted by hype...

The red cherry esc thing was different though. Obviously some people were pissed after they had just spent $250 but there weren't too many people.

I feel like if someone tried to recreate CC's stuff (to make money) though, people would flip and it probably wouldn't end well. When you have this many people who own his work, I feel like they'd do a lot to protect their "investments" for lack of a better word.

Title: Re: Click Clack Conspiracy Part 2

My question is, would the Clack market be as lucrative and would they be as sought after if GH weren't around anymore? I find it difficult to believe the market would make a smooth transition over to DT without taking a hit. Or would that actually increase the pricing? I'm actually starting they are more trouble than they are worth, and while they look nice and are certainly well crafted, there's a building distress each time I miss out on a sale or at-market-flash-sale in the classifieds. So that's every single 4Grabs and EK sale since the one in March '12 I've participated in and lost(I believe 9 or 10.) Eats at you in a way that causes one to view them in a different light and the rarity of possessing them starts to feel like a sort of curse, especially when you do wind up plopping down $100+ for a single Clack. If you own them in 10 years time, do you honestly think you will view them at such a high value?

Really the biggest twist would be if this whole Clack business were some sort of social experiment. That would be brilliant.

people collect what they like - and as long as they are willing to pay for it, is it anyone's job to stop them?  people who pay 250 bucks for a keycap should understand the risks associated with their choice.

all in all, this reminds me of the dutch tulip mania - clacks are nice keycaps, but they possess no intrinsic value, only what's attributed to them. They're still only sculpted plastic - very nice, unique plastic, but still plastic. But collectors wouldn't care about that.

People looking at them as investments will probably be sorely disappointed some time or the other, or make a killing, depending on whether others still want them clacks. That's assuming we'll still be using cherry mx keyboards in ten, twenty years down the road - personally, I'm hoping that voice recognition makes a quantum leap by then and I can stop torturing my hands. Perhaps by then, keyboards would be occupying the same space that typewriters are occupying now.

That's not to say I don't understand why people want clacks. I've spent my fair share of cash on useless junk - Magic the Gathering cards for example. I could probably get a good price for what I have left - a few decks here and there from about ten years back, but I keep them out of sentimental reasons. They're only pieces of printed cardboard in retrospect, but people would pay good money for it.

Collectors operate on a different system of rationale when it comes to their collectibles. No point arguing about it or trying to convince them otherwise.

Honestly though, I don't think I'm half as brilliant as the people who make far more money off my work than I do. Hmmm... maybe brilliant is the wrong word.

I still maintain all clickclacks are Ugly and worth less..
Ah yes, a little less than $ 0.25 correct?

Sorry about them being ugly. I could make a pretty one for you! What should I make?
Lets see...
"TP" nope, that part doesn't lead to any good imagery now does it?
"Tissue"? No, no, no, that wont do, it sounds too delicate. Something more abbrasive perhaps?
Toilet paper for tissue? Sounds uncomfortable, cheap, like a bad alternative when there are better options.
Sounds thin and useless, you could poke holes in it all day, doesn't hold water, etc.

Oh... Oh, Noes! I hadn't thought of this earlier, you're not cheap, you're broke! I'm so sorry, that's not really fun at all.

Lets do a Tp4tissue charity auction, we can all pitch in one tear. Or maybe just lend an ear, that's all he really wants.

...I don't hate the guy,...
THANKS! =D
I don't hate you either! I reserve that word for things I really, really dislike that actually matter.

No see.. he's the guy selling you the clack,, THEN he's ALSO the guy auctioning on ebay..

And I have a feeling he's also in control of a few other acounts on this site, which auctions off his so called "Extra caps"

but the whole time, there were MANY extras... to be spread over months..

My main point is a few of the "alleged" $200 sales are made up and didn't really take place.

It's like you try to create a new clothing, but how could you convince someone that it's $200... by putting on a show where you complete a successful sale to a non existent person, clickclack himself...

The scam here is... click clack.. auctions his clacks to another account he's created.. then when THAT guy sells it, it'll look like a rare cap is making it's way through the market... BUT that's not the case... you're buying it from click clack @ $250  :D

At least this is how I would do it... if I ran out of pocket money.

noisy, there's no proof that any of these sales ACTUALLY happened...

It's like you run an art gallery... and I've worked with many of these... they have show nights like I've described, where people PRETEND to buy paintings.. to make it look like there's a market.

I find the fact that ClickClack can sell his POS plastic for more than a quarter AMAZING....
Boy, you sure know how to swing those compliments.
Maybe I can help you out.

- Are they a POS for being made by an artist?
- Are they a POS for being promoted by a community, who helped get them off the ground?
- Are they a POS for being made by equipment that I designed and fabricated?
- Are they a POS for being made in molds I personally tooled?
- Are they a POS for  the 1000's of hours I have spent making them?
- Are they a POS for the all the skill that went in to designing and making them?
- Are they a POS for being offered to a community?
- Are they a POS for being high quality?
- Are they a POS because I have high standards?
- Are they a POS because I tried to innovate?
- Are they a POS because I want them to represent some of my best efforts?
- Are they a POS because the designs are being copied?
Or
- Are they a POS because you love saying anything for attention?

Hey CC -

Yeah, I don't think tp4tissue has ever actually tried to do anything interesting or challenging in his entire life.  That's why he has no idea how much work goes into one of your keycaps.  (Also he's never seen one for himself AFAIK, so he has no idea what they look and feel like.)   In the end, I think tp4tissue's attitude really comes down to "sour grapes", just like that fox in Aesop's fable.   Oh and I have to thank you for the GC sale, even though I missed out on getting any Clacks, because you finally got my wife interested in my keyboard hobby!  She started following the rarar drama, and now she's hooked.  And now she wants to get a Topre Mr. Friday!  heh, who doesn't?  (Oh, and she applauded your decision to take the Mr. Friday back, btw.)   Anyway, keep up the good work, and I'll try again to snag something from your next sale.  As for tp4tissue, well, he's a mixed-up troll who craves the negative attention he gets.

There's too little money in clacks for me to exploit..

DangWang sold one recently for $500. Not even a set, just a single Clack. I have heard tale of one going for $900 under specific circumstances.

that was a typo when $500 was listed. Dan has changed it

interesting thread.  nothing against cc or the community but to you cc owners, what is the justification in buying a plastic keycap for $100?  is it that the people actually value their own cc to be $100 or is it because the "market price" is $100?

again no disrespect or anything just curious

I am not sure how many times it has been explained, but here it goes again:

People will pay what they want for things they want. It has nothing to do with 'market value'. The market value is only a bi-product of the desire for hard-to-come-by items. If something is desired, but near impossible to get, somebody will pay whatever is needed to acquire that item. Do you remember collecting baseball cards? Coins? POG's? Toys that stayed in the original packaging? Etc.... etc.

If someone wants something bad enough, they will pay what is required. So if there are items running around that have seen low production numbers, and are rarely seen, those are sough-after items and can catch a good amount of money.

No one's arguing "against" this..

I am only saying that Clickclacks are a terrible investment..

For someone who Genuinely just wants the itty-bitty piece of plastic.. sure pay whatever ..

For anyone who's "investing" in clacks,, THIS IS A TRAP....

I don't really get your conspiracy theories. It's as simple as supply and demand. People like and want a product that sees limited production numbers. That automatically controls 'market value'.

what click clack DID DO, ingeniously is "created" a price tag for something that's otherwise worthless.

Everything is worthless.
It's only worth something because we place a value on it.
A glass of water to you is worth nothing, but to a person dying of thirst, it could be worth everything he has.

my claim, is that cc is generating artificial demand...
Even if they are creating artificial demand, they aren't the ones capitalizing on it. It;s the same as the red esc keys, it's worth what someone will pay.

i'm really not sure how you can separate the two. the 'market value' is directly affected by the desire to get hard-to-come-by items when somebody pays more than retail for the item on a second-hand market -- not least importantly being that geekhack is arguably the biggest second-hand market for these goods in the Americas and much of the rest of the english-speaking world.

the way you explained it, you're treating that byproduct as somehow less significant than other factors of the market, and i think it's a lot more important.

I don't actually remember how was the transition from that situation where Click Clack keys remained in stock for months to just now where people are making a lot of profit by reselling the keys and hoarding them and it seems everyone have to own them.

I guess at some point some people started to sell them overpriced for profit when they went out of stock after being there for months. I guess that's how everything started but I can't remember that.

That there is the conspiracy... they never sold out of stock... they were never all that popular, and yes they're STILL quite ugly...

What clack did do "clever guy" is go from selling crappy plastic to selling "RARE" crappy plastic..  Then, by creating a few LARGELY staged transactions established the current fascade..

What's that phrase "want in one hand, spit in the other, see which one fills up first"?

A troll thread is going to have about as much effect on CC secondhand prices as I would telling China to stop being communistic.

I have a slightly off-topic question, if that's at all possible at this point. If offered, does anyone think Ripster would ever return to GH? Has such an offer ever been extended. When I joined, he gave me a ton of extremely knowledgeable answers to queries and was really one of the key bindings that held GH together for a time. Watching him self destruct like that was difficult to watch, but he really did bring it upon himself. Has enough time passed to heal wounds on both sides, or has that come and gone? Was he ever actually proven to have been to cause of r00twyrm?

Quote
people are buying your plastic junk, and you're making some idiots pay upwards of $200

Is that clear enough for you?

don't lawyer this..

you've highlighted when i used "making" as "passive action" as in "creating the situation for"

when you posted clack didn't "make"   you meant an ACTIVELY forcing people to buy..

They are different.

I agree that english would be better if it were more precise, but we must make due.

His ego is too inflated to ever return, even if the offer was extended.

Someone explain why ripster left.. the mods refuse to tell me.

And EGO? on the internet?  I stand by this that : if you behave the way online as you would in life, you've completely missed the point of the internet..

The purpose of anonymous discussion is to cast away the inefficient courtesy that betrays Truth Intent..

I won't lie to you on the internet..  But if I met you in person.. I certainly would..

For example...

Online: I would say,, hey d...wade how's ur dead parrot..

In real life, I'd say, oh so sorry to hear about your loss. how have you gotten along.. KNOWING full well, that whatever I say wouldn't change anything, as the parrot is no more.

I have no idea why you're mad... :D
people are buying your plastic junk, and you're making some idiots pay upwards of $200
and as for your generosity to offer me a clack, no thanks.. i think they're ugly.. but you know, not that you're ugly.. your work is. that doesn't make you a bad person, don't take it that way.

I'm not mad, sorry to dissapoint. I'm having a blast with this thread. And Don't lie, so are you. And don't get upset that people don't understand you. Some people just prefer more tangible hobbies and interest.
I'm just killing time right now printing labels. I should get a faster printer, but then I wouldn't have time to read your posts.

I offered it to you at $200 so you could do the seemingly theraputic and nobel task of then selling it for $18. You know, show the people how it's done! Who cares if they are ugly. Stand up, be a man, don't be so vain, stick to your principles!

Phew... for a second there I thought you were going to say I was a bad AND ugly person.

Oh wait! The skull's a self portrait. Sh1t!

wait.. "are you ugly? "

I'm curious now... that would explain why you chose to make skulls.. as people who usually follow that direction of expression steer clear of conventional beauty due to their internal conflict with inadequacy.

ClickClack I have 2 questions...

1. Is the skull the superhero after he died?  They look similar in the facial region.  Is there some sort of CC lore you are writing?
2. Who got the Mr. Friday?

I don't like the term trolling, because the definition changed over time, from ACTUAL trolling, inciting-emotional-response, to  labeling ANYTHING-at-all you disagree with..

there was a quote on the game of thrones show I watched yesturday,  something something.. "he'd watch the kingdom fall to ruin, as long as he can be king of the ashes.."   I know that doesn't apply here since there's nothing to ruin.. but I do like the quote..

only 20%, that's like 10 more rebuttals.

And honestly, I don't know why this forum even needs Mods, because there's like almost NO ONE here saying anything most of the time.

If anything.. the fact that my posts make the place more lively is better than the dreary sullenness that GH usually is.

And it certainly is more lively to have a troll sometimes, which is why you aren't muted... yet.  Insulting an artist's work is kind of personal... if you've ever met an artist.  But, it's an off topic thread, so you're still talkin, aren't you?

I don't actually remember how was the transition from that situation where Click Clack keys remained in stock for months to just now where people are making a lot of profit by reselling the keys and hoarding them and it seems everyone have to own them.

I guess at some point some people started to sell them overpriced for profit when they went out of stock after being there for months. I guess that's how everything started but I can't remember that.

That there is the conspiracy... they never sold out of stock... they were never all that popular, and yes they're STILL quite ugly...

This part is funny and makes me laugh as to how you know what was and was not popular at GH well over a whole year before you even joined....let me educate you

The 1st CC sale at EK was the only one when they (TRI, BLUE, & RED) stayed in stock for a long time, with a long time being a couple weeks. This was the 1st time anyone was selling custom keys like this, and at $15 it seemed like a lot to most people when they were used to just buying $1-3 novelty keys.

The 2nd CC sale at EK was the original Halloween stuff (Jack & CandyCorn Skulls, Candy Corns, Gray Skull) and that lasted maybe 2 hours before being sold out with the Jack & CandyCorn Skulls being gone in minutes

Every sale since then has decreased the time to sell out where now we're talking about being sold out in seconds.

so yep you sure are right that "they were never all that popular"

not mass-marketable product = not popular..  You're likely overestimating the market.  If these clacks were at all POPULAR, there is EVERY REASON to sell them in volume and make a whole lot more.

The trouble is, keyboardin' is not there yet.. at least not in the USA..

They tested LED traffic lights in the states, they saved power, but didn't melt the snow in winter, so they had to change back to regular halogen.

why do you always come back to this same argument as to why CC"s aren't popular? CC has answered this many times for you and others that this is just a hobby and way of sharing some of his work with others who enjoy them. But by your definition, unless CC quits his day job to mass produce them, then they are not popular
