Soon I bought one cherry keyboard as a present for a friend of mine (he actually knows what a good keyboard is, but he would never give $70+ for one). I wanted to buy it locally (and save some money from the shipping), but the local online store had only the blue cherries one, I wanted the brown ones, but I don't really mind the blue cherries so I bought it. The keyboard is really OK, it is labeled G80-3000LSMEU-0, it's made in the czech republic and cost me 55 euro. What impressed me is that it doesn't click as the scorpius one, this has more model m's clickiness in it than the high-pitched one of the scorpius, I don't know what the reason for this could be - the only visible difference is the lower profile of the keycaps of this keyboard. However, I wanted to share my only complain with it - the space bar is noticeably harder to press, so yesterday i pull it off and saw that it has a green switch, and all others have the blue one. Is this normal for all g80-3000LSs? Will it softener with the time? I 've heard nothing of green switches before...
a.
p.s. what about the g84-4100? I'm thinking about buying one for my girlfriend (although I'm the one with the internal desire for it), she is using my scorpius at the moment, but I really like the cherry small factor, but I don't know how does the ML switches compare against the MX ones? any opinions to share?
-
I have several older 4100's and think they feel pretty decent. Several members here have them and I believe most find it to be a nice little 'board.
I bust one out every once in a while as they are fun to type on. (although I have issues with the small right shift key that keeps me from typing on it (or my SMK88) long term)

I have on of these as well. Nice little keyboard, my main use for it is as a light portable keyboard to take with me when I use my thinkpad on a stand (for ergonomic reasons). The black cherry switches are not bad at all, I like them (spend most of my time on a model m). As iMav mentioned, the only thing that sometimes bothers me is the smaller right shift key.

the more i think about it and taking into acount its price - no doubt that i'll take one... is it usb? most of the laptops nowadays lack the ps2 port, this is why i like bringing my hhkb pro 2 with me every time i took my lappy...

The G84-4100 is USB with a PS/2 adaptor if you get a new one.

So there will be another keyboard in my hands next month. This makes 5 keyboards (only 3 for me) for almost 6 months. This forum is not good for my wallet :)
Isn't there anyone, who has a g80-3000 with the blue cherries or Das II? Please tell me what color is the switch of the space bar, and how does it feel compared to the other keys...
-
I emailed Cherry and asked which keyboards have what keys, as I was curious to know. This is the email they sent back:
"Almost all of our keyboards use the black stem switch. The
G80-3000LXCEU-2 uses the blue switch. The G80-3000LSCEU-2 uses a brown
switch."
I am having a hard time finding a G80-3000 here, at least the das II and the das III have cherry blue switches and are easier to come by,(that is when they are making them).
I agree that this site is hard on the wallet : ). I am saving for a HHKB Pro 2 and want to get a Filco with brown switches too. Those 2 boards seem to be held in high esteem here. In the meantime, I bang away on my model m.
-
My Filco is at work right now, and I bang away on my Model M. Don't feel bad for using one of these old battleships, I wrote a five page short story on it two days ago and it was some of my tightest writing ever, so I'm giving the M another chance.

You guys certainly have a lot more luck contacting Cherry than I do. They never respond to me. I guess they must sell so many keyboards that they don't care if they lose a few sales. Cherry Europe could learn a thing or two from Cherry US. Xsphat, aren't you worried about leaving it at work? Or are you relying on the fact that most people can't tell their brown-axis from their elbow?
-
I don't feel to bad about my model m, I have 3 of them after all, well, one is a unicomp, but thats close enough...
Its just that after reading the threads here, it looks like the HHKB Pro 2 and the Filco with cherry browns seem to be the next ones to try. I blame it all on iMav and xsphat : )
The das keyboard has blue cherry switches, and from what I read they are loud and clicky, which I like. And the das keyboard is more affordable.
The filco would run me about 170 US and the HHKB would be a little over 300 US, so yeah, I need to save for those.
My wife thinks I am insane and my co-workers cannot believe anyone would ever pay 100 dollars for a keyboard. I didn't tell them about the HHKB at 300 US. That would probably make their heads explode or something.

No, I'm not too worried about leaving the Filco at work. I normally leave the HHKB Lite there, but I needed my PS/2 adaptor to use my M at home.
I work in an office that is filled with college educated journalists who thrive on honesty. I left a $20 on my desk over a long weekend once and it was there on my desk in plain view right where I left it after four days and nights. While I paid $160 for the Filco, I feel it is more likely someone would have taken the $20 than a keyboard in this culture.

I have an g80-3000lcsgb and the spacebar also has a green keyswitch, i'm guessing its harder so it can take more key presses, or due to the power of the thumb compared to fingers, i've gotten used to it so it doesn't bother me. I've been using a black stem cherry keyboard recently and find it just as fun to type on, black stems are much more difficult to avoid bottoming out but are much quieter.
On the note of expensive keyboards, i've spent £150 on a total of 4 keyboards, £80 of which after I joined this site. Keyboards and mice are an expensive item, but they increase the performance of the slowest part "the human". I wonder when i will get a hhkb pro 2, they are just so tempting but my wallet would never survive the attack

I don't even want to talk about how much I've spent on keyboards ...
-
heh....we know what you've bought too. =-D

Actually, you don't. I've slid a few by you guys, but I am down to a few I really like.

what happend with the realforce? i thought you had bought one..
-
I almost did, but I really think the single space backspace and the right shift key would mess me up.

I had hopes that someone from the forum would take one and woulg post a nice encorouging review, so I can start saving money for it... I'm still looking forward to see a realforce with us layout though..:)

Like the 101? That has a US layout and it always has. It is, in fact, the only one.

Hey, that realforce keyboard is nice looking, just like a spacesaver. Are they available here in the states?
-
Same way as the Filco is.

I know about the 101, what i meant was somethig more compact with US layout, numpads are almost useless unless you are an excel freak :)
