Title: (IC) Model AT F tour
Post by: AKIMbO on Mon, 22 April 2013, 20:47:23
I'm gauging interest for an umodded IBM Model AT F tour.   The tour is happening....please confirm your participation here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42802.msg867659#msg867659).

Only members who have 250+ posts and I deem trustworthy are allowed to participate (why...because it's my board and ain't no one gonna run off with it!  :p).  This board uses an AT cable (so I will be including an AT to PS/2 converter on this tour).

Terms of the tour:
-You get one week with the board...then you must mail it (with tracking) on to the next individual on the list.
-You must post a review of the board.
-Tour is CONUS only.

Please let me know whether you want to test the AT F with the stock space bar (heavy) or modded spacebar (light)

Those who have expressed interest (i.e. possible tour participants):
-The_Beast (modified spacebar)
-Dante (stock spacebar)
-CPT BadAss (stock spacebar)
-mashby (stock spacebar)
-boost
-bazemk1979
-hashbaz
-Burz
-jdcarpe (stock spacebar)

You should include one on the tour. I need to get a converter for my F-122.

USPS Priority flat rate in a game board box is $15.

I'll be including an adapter if this board goes out on tour.

Double score. So it should work with any modern PC (that has a PS2)?

If so, add me pls!

Flat Rate game board is more like $19 something now, I believe.

Yeah....I will include an AT to PS/2 adapter and a PS/2 to USB converter...so the board will work with any computer that has a USB port.

This is just an interest check for right now.  If I can get 10 or so people to say they are interested then I will create a thread for the actual tour.  But yeah man...Model F clicky goodness y'all (said in a Paula Deen voice).

$16.85 if you pay at the post office.  $15 and change if you pay online.

I'm interested.  I don't have 300+ posts but I returned your AT101 so hopefully that counts for something :D

I would also be interested in a Zenith Green Alps tour.  I think I'd like it but I need more time with it.

Ok...I modified the terms of the tour.  You qualify now.  The goal of the terms is to prohibit those who I don't trust or don't feel like I can trust from taking part in the tour.  I just do not want someone running off with the board or disappearing with it for a month.  It is a rather rare board.

There are some people who only say something when they have something good/important to say.

I'm kind of tempted to compare it against the Quiet Pro I'll hopefully have within the next month. I could block my ears and try to judge how they feel :)

I used Fs every day for years in the 80s. I didn't like them then for some reason (maybe it was noise) and haven't used one in over 20 years. The Leading Edge and Compaq keyboards seemed much nicer.

Ok....so it looks like we have enough interest to go forward with the tour.  Before I create the official tour thread, I want everyone's input.  Would you rather test the AT F stock (with its very heavy spacebar) or have me mod the spacebar to be lighter (more akin to the actuation force required on modern keyboards)?

I would sign up for the tour, but I'm afraid I would fall in love with it and not want to send it on.

JK. Sign me up, please!
