Update:
I have ordered a Aoyue 2702 but when it arrived, the package looked like it litterally fell off the truck and was left out in the rain forgetten for a day ( the actual package was one day late and i am assuming that is what happened ).
The box disintegrated so they put in a "We Care" plastic bag.
When i opened the package the font face was cracked and was coming apart. I have already received a refund ( great seller) he has to dispute it with USPS now.

I also ordered a hakko 936 that one of the users posted a link to use a backup which is now my main unit, just waiting for the iron to come in.
I have so far lubed all the switches and replaced the stock springs on all ( even the grey spacebar switch, i tried with 55g and stock clear spring and 55g felt better and did not have a problem coming up at all ) switches to a 55g Korean spring and assembled them with a switch sticker.
They also have been soldered with an el-cheapo iron on the pcb with plate, which isn't that bad if you tin the tip and don't hold it on the pcb for too long.

I haven't cleaned the residue yet, i will after I finish soldering the leds.
All the switches work but there won't be an led dimmer function ( for now )
I am now waiting for the leds to come in, with other items before i can assemble it together.
OK, I think you have a different work style from Phoenix. Phoenix seems to have cut into the PS2 cable (a delicate and risky operation) and identified the power cables, then modded his external power supply onto those cables.
For your photo below, it's of the TG3's PCB, right? So your're essentially running some cables from the casing to a modded power cable of the kind used in computer psu-s, hooked up to an external 12v adapter.
Don't mind me asking, but is it worth it? Are the 12v lights really that pretty? It looks like a standard illuminated keyboard from the pictures, but if 12v makes the lights that strong, I think I can replace the original keycaps with PBT keycaps and have the light shine through/ from under them.
Don't cut the wire on the ps/2 cable ( just unplug the two wire connector from the pcb ( blue and green ) then just solder the yellow ( from PSU ) to where blue goes on the board and black ( PSU ) to green on the board. You could cut into the cable but you risk damaging the cable, it's up to you.

This portion of the mod is if you kept the original 2.2v leds and don't want to use external source.
Purchase this converter (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251231658014?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649)
Then connect it as shown below

Thumps up +1
Simply, this is the best solution so far.
I just make an order of 3 converter items (extra for backup) and I'm preparing for some soldering works :))

I have two of these TG3 boards, one with red LEDs (works fine on a PS2 port) and the other with the 12v white LEDs. I went ahead and ordered two of the voltage converter boards you've linked above, going to try the mod that keeps the stock LEDs.
I've also ordered green LEDs, might try swapping them for the whites for that mini-ToXiC look.
Thanks for this thread, it's inspired me to try soldering a keyboard for the first time!
Here they are.
Back of the keyboard. As you can see, the converter solution is the simplest solution, we don't need to cut the cable, modify the voltage or any other heavy changes.
