Title: PS/2 difficulties in Windows 7
Post by: jabar on Mon, 29 April 2013, 23:15:20: I'm actively searching for a solution, but I have yet to figure this one out.

I recently purchased an older Cherry model keyboard which is PS/2 (via a DIN->PS/2 adapter). The keyboard works just fine on my old XP SP2 computer, but it won't be recognized beyond my BIOS on my Win 7 64bit machine. My mobo (ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z) has one common PS/2 port but has no PS/2 settings in the BIOS; the keyboard works just fine in the BIOS. Upon loading Windows any lock LEDs clear and no input is recognized.

The keyboard appears on my Device Manager as a HID Keyboard across USB which is bizarre since it's connected via PS/2, so I'm leaning towards it being a Windows problem. The keyboard isn't recognized either when using an active PS/2->USB adapter.

I did that under windows 8 to get my ps2 port working as it would only work in bios. Not sure if it works in windows 7 but worth a shot.

e: I could be due in for a BIOS update if that is the issue.

Post by: jabar on Tue, 30 April 2013, 04:50:06: Yeah, other keyboards, both USB and native PS/2 never gave me issues until this particular one. I haven't swapped in another PS/2 since, so drivers could have become corrupted. Can't test again til this weekend though.

heh I wasn't getting the keyboard over active PS/2 to USB adapter either.

The more I think about it, I have a feeling it's a BIOS issue. Appearing as a USB keyboard when plugged via PS/2 is bizarro.

Now typing on the G80-2100 spacecruiser!
