I'm actively searching for a solution, but I have yet to figure this one out.
I recently purchased an older Cherry model keyboard which is PS/2 (via a DIN->PS/2 adapter). The keyboard works just fine on my old XP SP2 computer, but it won't be recognized beyond my BIOS on my Win 7 64bit machine. My mobo (ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z) has one common PS/2 port but has no PS/2 settings in the BIOS; the keyboard works just fine in the BIOS. Upon loading Windows any lock LEDs clear and no input is recognized.
The keyboard appears on my Device Manager as a HID Keyboard across USB which is bizarre since it's connected via PS/2, so I'm leaning towards it being a Windows problem. The keyboard isn't recognized either when using an active PS/2->USB adapter.

In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt, edit the Start value and set it to a hex or decimal value of 1. Reboot
I did that under windows 8 to get my ps2 port working as it would only work in bios. Not sure if it works in windows 7 but worth a shot.

It seems that that i8042prt fix is present across several iterations of Windows, but it didn't work for me. Thank you for the tip, though; none of my searches yielded anything about i8042prt. I'll continue to delve deeper.
e: I could be due in for a BIOS update if that is the issue.

I use PS/2 keyboards and mice on all my W7 machines and never encountered a problem yet. I donno what is different. Weird.

Yeah, other keyboards, both USB and native PS/2 never gave me issues until this particular one. I haven't swapped in another PS/2 since, so drivers could have become corrupted. Can't test again til this weekend though.

Also had this problem on one computer. Thought it was something to do with the motherboard. Since I still get 6 key rollover on USB I decided not to worry about it.

heh I wasn't getting the keyboard over active PS/2 to USB adapter either.
The more I think about it, I have a feeling it's a BIOS issue. Appearing as a USB keyboard when plugged via PS/2 is bizarro.

It might unnecesary but, I'd try with soarer adapter.

Bios issue. Flashed it just now, not sure if there was an embedded update or if my old chipset became corrupt.
Now typing on the G80-2100 spacecruiser!
