My USB mouse works fine but my small UMS doesn't; is there a dip switch I need to toggle?

no, check your cable, if it is too thin and if it connects to only one of your computer's usb ports, then more power hungry devices might not work. i use one which has two normal usb connectors (one for data and power and the other only for power, both of which combine) at the one end and the other end is the mini usb connector, even my portable usb hard disk works attached to the hhkb with this cable...

what's a UMS?

what's a UMS?
i suppose it's universal mass storage (device)... i thought it's how the americans call it, but as it seems it's not quite like that :)

so an external HDD? mine messes with my something and causes my computer to not shut down properly when I connect it to a hub (in OS X 10.5)

Thanks. I'm using the cable that came with the keyboard. Guess I'll look into getting a better one.
Yeah, by UMS I meant a USB "thumb drive". I've got a UMS hard drive that I'd like to use, too, but I've only tested the "thumb drive" for now.
USB Mass Storage.

My hhkb came without a cable :(

I've plugged in digital cameras, thumb drives, external drivies, and even a printer (once, for initial setup) into HHKB Pro 2 and have had no problems.

What dip switch settings do you use, iMav?

Switch #2 "ON"...all the rest "OFF".

Thank you.

not sure what it's called, but my 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure came with a usb cable that has 2 connectors on one end, to get extra power. using one of theose to connect the HHKB pro II may supply enough power to more devices.
