Are the spacebar stabilizers spaced the same as Filco and other boards?
Otherwise great review, thanks.
How's the keycap printing especially on caps with words like shift?

please flip a keycap. Thank you.
How is the PCB quality.

MechanicalKeyboards.com now stocks Keycool. Here (http://www.mechanicalkeyboards.com/search.php?man=30) is their Keycool page.Yeah, I saw those too. I really don't need the backlighting, but I might just cave and get it since it's the only thing I can find. I saw the white for less than $100 and was hoping I could find the blacks for less than $100 also but that might not happen.
I bought mine from imsto in China, by sending him a PM. I've heard mixed reviews regarding the HPE. Seems to be a bit more cheaply built, while the Keycool is the new standard in China.
It also doesn't look like it comes with any extras when purchasing it from mechanicalkeyboards.comMy wife's Keycool 84 from mechanicalkeyboards.com came with the detachable cable, blue arrow cluster, pink WASD cluster, red escape & key puller. Just no slip case.
I'd been looking at some of the Keycool boards for fun over @mechanicalkeyboards.com. Didn't end up ordering because the particular board I might have considered ordering was out of stock, but thanks for the review. Haven't read another Keycool review on a similar keyboard yet so now I've got some more information on them.I've wanted to get a 87 or 84 in browns with black casing, but I didn't see anything on the site either. Only thing I saw was the browns in white casing. I ended up just buying HPE 87 browns and I'll probably switch it up in a few months and get the side printed key cools in browns if they ever come back in stock.
How white have the caps stayed after some heavy use? ;D
jdcarpe how ur keyboard holding up? ;D
Sorry for the lack or replies. :(are u sure that the caps have fiberglass added how do u know? as i know fiberglass is really dangerous..
The Keycool is holding up well. After using a Das as my daily driver at work for a while, I'm back to using the Keycool daily. I really like black switches now.
As for the keycaps, I couldn't say. I hate using stock keycaps, and I hate the way PBT feels anyway, so there you have it. I'm using some SP ABS caps on it now. As an aside, I heard that the PBT caps from Keycool have fiberglass added for strength, so I'm not sure about what the long term effects of having small particles of fiberglass in constant contact with your fingertips might be.

No, I don't know this to be a fact, it's something I heard from a source who is very knowledgeable about Chinese manufacturing.

I wouldn't worry about the fibreglass too much, unless of course you encounter broken or rough edges that fray, as it's the dust particles that would be dangerous.i think the keycaps on let version is different..
Don't forget many baths and shower bases are fibreglass, in fact thinking about it, loads of products.
I am definitely swaying to getting myself a keycool 87 white LED with brown switches I think :)

Hi Sorno shiny yet on the caps, and still white! ;D
I would say cleaning should be fine, but I am no expert, just going on fibreglass experience in the past,
the danger from tiny fibres is normally inhaling them, which is the problem with asbestos, it is fine until you encounter dust from it being broken up for example.
I can imagine fibreglass key having an extremely long lifespan too, do they go all shiny like normal plastic ones?
Just scred a used white KC 87 MX Brown in a local forum, will be picking it up tomorrow. This'd be my 2nd KC keyboard.....looking forward to messing with it tomorrow. Best part is, it's a few months old, hardly used and I snagged it for about 55USD.
@PadawanGeek so vs the competition how would you rate the Keycool 87?, its in the same price range as CM TK boards and the Corsair K65.It's still too early to tell since I'd just gotten this board, it's like what the OP had said, and if it's anything like the KC 84 LED I have, I have a feeling I'm going to like this board. It feels solid like any other well made mechanical keyboard, typing and gaming on it is the same as when I was doing the same with my Ducky or Filco.
Good review! I really like my white keycool 87 as well :)
Some questions have been raised regarding space bar compatibility on the KeyCool. Having just received my KeyCool 87 (same as jdcarpe's, but with MX red) I did some comparisons with a CM QFR and the Filco yellow space bar thereon.
As you can see, they are the same, except the KeyCool has two extra stems, and the extra stabiliser support holes in the plate seem to be slightly further apart on the KeyCool.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/59ICwKE.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/kg3HXUu.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/HZyvt6s.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/f1Xa8Aq.jpg)
Hi guys, just got my white case keycool 87 with mx reds from qtan and thought id give a little review in here for anyone interested.
Was buying it specially for gaming, so i chose mx red switch. Really impressed with board quality, seen some youtube reviews where people have some problems with spacebar stabilizer and read some messages in here (and other website i forgot) about people saying its a low quality board, i disagree with that completely as i had 0 trouble whatsoever and board feels really solid, nothing is flimsy or feels cheap. Only tested filco majestouch with browns, cm storm quickfire and razer blackwidow in real life and i must say it feels much much better then razer blackwidow, as good if not better then cm storm (mostly because cm storm ugly color for my taste + their annoying branding almost everywhere on the case) and really i cant tell a difference in quality from filco. I know experts in this forum will throw some hate messages at me for that comparison with allmighty filco, but apart from quite odd leds on keycool (which i am okay with, since i dont really enable them like ever), it feels like a really solid board.
Would recommend it to anyone who doesnt want to pay extra 50-100$ for just a more famous brand name, as i said already - very solid board for a good price, nothing feels cheap at all, especially with so many things coming with that board - 9 extra buttons, key puller and some little stabilizers? (i guess, no idea) and ofcourse buy from qtan :)
For anyone having some questions regarding my particular keyboard or whatever - just message me on steam (see my sig)
can u change the inserts that go directly into the plate without desoldering?
It's very neat that this comes with PBT keycaps.
This board definitely caught my eye.
How does this baby stack against the competition (and in particular Filco)?
I'm very curious about this, since this comes with PBT keycaps and it's much cheaper.
Also, is it cheaper to ask somebody to buy this from China and ship it over to you OR to buy it directly from amazon/keyboard direct for about 100-110 USD?
Well I'm annoyed now, to say the least. For whatever reason I decided to start messing around with the keys. Somewhere along the way I managed to break a very small tab off one of the guides that holds the Enter key in place. Now, it won't activate properly. It still works, but one side of key will lower whilst the other is stiff. I tried to disassemble the thing with no success, so I have no idea whether the broken piece is actually causing the problem or not.
I need to give the thing a decent clean soon anyway, so maybe then I'll find out.
You could always place a wanted ad in the marketplace to see if anyone in the UK has some they could send you. I would offer but I don't have any :)
^ They're actually £2 + VAT + postage meaning £7.79 overall which is actually more than buying them from WASD :p
