Title: New Scorpious M10 is here (blue cherries)
Post by: Waves77 on Thu, 12 June 2008, 23:06:27
I got my Scorpious M10 in the mail today. VERY light action compared to my other boards. Liking it so far: simple form, heavier than I thought it would be for this price range. Got it from ergogeek through their ebay page (little under $60 including 3 day UPS).

I'll post a review after I've had it for a few days (still making a lot of typos right now ).

iMav - any way of posting a sound clip?

What format do we want to standardize on...wav? I'll add it as an allowed file extention for post attachments.

Probably create a separate, sticky thread for sound clips (although you'd be free to include them in your reviews as well).

Or something compressed like ogg or mp3 - I don't think we need uncompressed for this type of recording.

Yeah, I agree that both (in a review and in a sticky thread) would probably be the most useful.

I've included sound clips in some of my reviews like the SMK85.

I imagine iMav uploaded that for you? There's no way to upload sound files through the forum (see list of allowed extensions for attachments in "Manage attachments" link).

I'd go for a lossless codec, but wave (or anything else uncompressed) is a horrible choice.

FLAC, maybe? Although support for that is weak...

You guys work it out and let me know.

I'm fine with whatever.

Flac is just overkill for something like this.

Mind you that I (and I assume most people) won't have recording equipment good enough for that type of stuff anyways - mp3/ogg at a higher bitrate should be more than fine. This is coming from someone that plays everything in 320kbps/flac through an amp into Grados & Sennheisers - but let's keep things in perspective (IMHO).

What Grados do you have?  :)

My sources are a M-Audio 5.1 Revolution for my desktop, and a Cowon U3 portable that plugs into a PA2V2 amp. The Grados are a pair of SR80's (mainly for the portable) - my other pair are Sennheiser 555's (desktop only).

A humble setup, but makes me quite happy for what I'm willing to spend on that kind of thing for the time being :)

Are you into headphones?

I guess ogg is less practical for non-linux users. I would prefer to upload soundbits in mp3 format unless someone else has a better idea...

mp3 it is.  I'll start the thread shortly.

That's cool!  I used to browse head-fi for awhile.  I was really hoping to get some Grados, but didn't have the cash at the time.  All I have is a pair of Sony MDR-v6.  They got a great range, which is cool for listening to music with alot of layers (i.e.: my fav, Devin Townsend ;)).  I figure if I ever strike gold, I'll spring for the Grado RS-1's... but that might be years from now, lol.

Oh, and I also have some Westone UM1s for the portable setup:  (Sony NW-HD1).

Not bad either... the problem with getting better headphones is that you also need a better source... and a better amp... and better cables... ;)

It ends up being quite a bit of money  Yeah, I like to browse head-fi as well from time to time - very informative.

I remember Townsend from when he did that album with Vai!

That's what got me into Townsend.  Trust me, his solo stuff is amazing.  If you ever get a chance, listen to "Terria".

I just ordered an Onkyo SE-90PCI soundcard.  I hope it sounds good!  :)

Here's a video I've found of someone typing on an M10...

I'd certainly like to give one a shot, but I can't keep blowing money on keyboards. :p

Of course you can ;)

No need to rush though. As for getting this one, I'd recommend getting something else for blue cherries.

Just an update. Despite only mentioning exchanges on their ebay page for defective items, I explained that I wasn't really confident in anything made by iOne and that I'd prefer a refund.

They were pretty easy going about it, and agreed to refund me once they had received and inspected the board - I shipped it UPS ground today, so should take 3-5 business days tops. Customer service from ergogeek has been very good at all stages so far :)

In other unrelated news, my brown cherry Filco left Japan today :D
