Title: New to Mechanical Keyboards
Post by: Zovind on Fri, 17 May 2013, 21:19:09
Sup! I am new to mechanical keyboards. A friend let me tried his and I was hooked. I live in the US and I am interested in getting a Filco Majestouch 2 Ninja Brown switch. Anyone know where I can get one at the best price?

So, the story with Filco in the US: The main importer is The Keyboard Company (http://www.keyboardco.com/), a UK company.  They use Amazon for fulfillment and send batches over periodically. Which keyboards are available or not available changes quite a bit.  Lately browns have been in short supply... in the past reds were hard to find.  Either way, I see you found the subform of The Keyboard Company... good.  There aren't really many other options for a Filco other than in our classifieds.  (A used Filco is as good as a new! Literally (almost..) nothing that can't be fixed.)

You may also look at the Cooler Master QuickFire Rapid boards.  They are made in the same factory and tear-downs have shown the quality is nearly the same.  I personally don't like the keycap font, but you can change keycaps... that's half the fun of a Cherry MX board!

As far as switch types, is there any particular reason you want brown?

Recently got mine from http://www.linkecomputer.com (http://www.linkecomputer.com) They ship from HK and it took about a week to get it to me in California. Filco Ninja Brown TKL 180USD shipped with insurance. No issues. Had to ask about stock for a while, though.

That's a fine choice for your first mechanical keyboard, I think you're really gonna like it!

No specific reason I want a brown. My friend has some red and blue. I didn't like it quite as much so he recommended the browns to me.
