Chances are that it uses regular contact-switches. The controller is on a separate board. Replace the controller with a Teensy++ with one of the custom firmware available here...

That ribbon cable looks like it connects directly to the matrix.
This thing would be relatively easy to convert if that is as straight forward as it looks...
Now, the bigger question: what kind of switches does it have? I'd guess beam spring, but I'm not sure anything about anything concerning this type of keyboard.
