Here in India, dust is a major issue and it gets inside switched. Add to it the polluted and humid weather, the dust sticks and is very hard to remove. Forget compressed air.
As a way to reduce this dust, I am planning on making a keyboard roof. The keyboard will be the Ducky Zero DK2108.
Their will be two lengths of feet, at the back and the front (Like most roofs).
Dimensions:
Back feet: 19" x 2.5"
Roof: 19" x 6.5"
Front feet: 19" x 1.8"
These are just rough estimates, I will have the exact dimensions, once I get the keyboard in my hands.
Now the purpose of this thread: I want to get ideas from fellow GHers about what I could get etched on the roof.
My current idea:
Back feet: geekhack logo in the middle
Roof: No idea
Front: Name in the right corner
I want it to be something nice/elegant yet not tacky/cheap
Throw your ideas!

I LOVE the logo found in the bottom right of the picture below. The picture is from this thread (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=42051.msg843794#msg843794). I know you said you wanted the logo on the back leg of the roof but I'd put a logo on the top.

Otherwise, if you want an idea of some really awesome engraving, check out what jdcarpe engraved here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=41390.msg904547#msg904547). If you have a logo/image you're really attached to, you should go with that. :D

How about this design. I am a Batman fan.

Keyboard roofs are cool but I've just been using the plastic cover that came with my ducky that fits right over the keys.
There are also a few threads about these you might want to search and look through to get more ideas.
-
Saw those, just getting ideas for the etching, most of the other stuff is sorted. :D
-
My customer keyboard roof - it works! I live in a very dusty area, and the keyboard has remained fairly dust free.

I think these two combined with a little custom stitch work would be very interesting.

Although I have imba stitching skills, I don't think I'll have the time :P

Thats what I use, took me about 5mins to bend it one day when work actually had some covers in...lol

Here is the design I am inclining towards most.
-
That's an awesome design :)

That's an awesome design :)
If you mean it (You never when people are sarcastic online), thanks!
Waiting for what others think. I really like it, and I think that is what is most important :P
-
LOL, that's hilarious. And the little Cherry switch is a nice touch :D
-
Finally got the design engraved and the keyboard rood made
Comments welcome!
-
That's simple and effective, but very, very well done :)
-
Thanks :D
-
That is pretty damn cool, I want one :D Can you make moar?
-
You guys won't believed if I told you that it cost only $14.
Bulk would be around 10-12 with custom designs.
I am located in India, here labour is pretty cheap. Not sure about shipping. If there are enough interests I could host a GB.
-
:O $14 I want!
Are you planning to make different sizes?

Most definitely! I'd recommend you start a GB for these and put me down for two.
-
Please do! In for a full keyboard, tkl, and a 60%!
-
I might get back to these, however it will e a while, since I have about 3-4 things already going on.
-
Woah! HOw did I miss this?
-
I'm in for one. TKL
-
I'd also be interested in a TKL one
-
Any updates?
-
Based on weight of product, shipping would be about:
$ [ L x (W + 12) ] * 0.01 + 3 rounded up to integer
Approx = $12 for 60%, $16 for TKL, $19 for Full
Price approx would be: $10 for 60%, $15 for TKL, $20 for full and $5 for engraving
I know the price is higher than what I had mentioned earlier, but that is because I have gotten a worksman with better quality, price includes shipping materials, and due to forex rate increase materials have become expensive here.
L = Length of roof in cm
W = Width of roof in cm
These are approximates.
-
These look great, would be interested.
-
I would buy a tkl one maybe two. Also 60% please :)

Sounds good. When will you start taking orders?
-
After I am done with current GBs I am running.
-
I suppose having all 4 sides wont be an option right?

It can be done, but won't be bent then, cut and fused as lining up bents is goibg to be hard
-
This looks kinda cool, once I find a not so expensive 60%, I'll might take one if you start a GB.
