Description:
The needle gauge is small enough that GPL103 will not flow too easily and large enough that it has decent flow when the bottle is squeezed.

I experimented with several kinds of blunt needles. First, I started with what I can get easily and later ordered specialty needles. So far I tried 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 32 gauge needles. Large blunt needles that you can get in the market was too wide that it was hard to control the flow of low viscosity GPL103. As for the speciality blunt needles, 32 was too narrow for GPL103, 30 was okay but I had to squeeze pretty hard to get decent flow, 27 was best so far for GPL103.

The bottle is made of LDPE(soft plastic) and can be squeezed to control oil flow.

I also ordered needle caps and luer lock caps to go with the set. The needle cap covers the needle so the needle is not damaged accidentally, but it doesn't seal the container. For sealing purposes, the luer lock cap could be used.

The kit is not hard to get. It is just that vendors don't sell them in low quantities. Bottles must be ordered in 10 units, needles and etc must be ordered in 50 units. And the shipping!! So, I bought 50 and now I am selling the left overs.

Note on the cap of 0.5oz bottle:
When the cap is closed with a decent force, the cap slips from the threads on the bottle. So, I had to twist the cap up to a point where I felt a little insecure about leaking. During normal use, I could detect no or very little leak on the threads, so the cap could be fine. However, to get a better seal I applied PTFE thread sealant tape on the threads of the bottle. 1oz bottle cap do not have the same problem.

Here are specification of the blunt needles I tried:
IT grade
Green    21 gauge ID 0.033mm OD 0.838mm
Red      24 gauge ID 0.022mm OD 0.559mm
NT grade
Clear    27 gauge ID 0.016mm OD 0.410mm
Lavender 30 gauge ID 0.012mm OD 0.310mm
Yellow   32 gauge ID 0.010mm OD 0.260mm

Some guide on lubing Cherry switches
Here is an illustration of where I apply different kind of lube. I used an image from GH wiki ( http://wiki.geekhack.org/index.php?title=Cherry_MX )

I dip the precision oiler into Krytox grease and get small amount of grease on the needle. I bring the needle to the sliding surface and spread the grease and oil at the same time. Key is to spread the grease thin so that the surface can get good spread of Krytox oil. Without the grease, the oil tend to form small drops instead. In my method, the sole purpose of the grease is to spread the oil nicely.

Also, I use Victorinox oil on the stem where spring is inserted. I put a small drop on it. I don't put as much attention when I apply the Victorinox oil since pressing the assembled switch a couple of times does a pretty good job of spreading the oil. However, you should be careful not to put too much lube.

Questions and Answers:
1. Are you going to separate a set?(only needle, for example) No. Sorry.
2. Can I buy more than 3 sets? Yes. But shipping will be more since I have to use a box insted of bubble mailer.
3. Did you try syringes? Yes. Squeeze bottle is much better.
4. How does the precision oiler compare to using brushes? I like the oiler better because I have better control over the amount of oil applied. Of course you could control the amount of oil using brushes, but I think it is harder than using squeeze bottle with a right gauge needle.
5. What about the other precision oiler in the above links? They may be okay if you don't care much about amount of oils(you will get large drops of oil), but from what I have experienced, I would certainly try this out.
6. How many switches can you lube with this set? According to my experiments, you can lube 4000 switches. Here is how I got the number: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44373.msg930717#msg930717

Thanks for looking.

How does Krytox 201 compare to 203 or 205?

Krytox grease are thickened Krytox oil with PTFE and the model number of the grease reflects what type of oil was used as base oil. For example, GPL201 uses GPL101 oil as base. All GPL grease has same consistency of NLGI 2, so they all have same consistency of peanut butter. However, since base oils are different the grease feels different.

GPL201 is slippery to touch and I think it is good base for mixing with Krytox oils if you want the mix to have low viscosity. I use the grease to paint a thin coat and then I use the oiler to apply Krytox oils. I think it works pretty well that way.

12 more of set B (Krytox 201 grease) available.

I ordered 0.5kg of Krytox 103 oil to bundle with the oiler kit, so if you do not have any Krytox oils, you might want to wait a bit until the oil is delivered to me.

If you already have Krytox oil, set A+B will be pretty useful.

Interested in a complete set, please!  This can be used for springs (oil) and stems (mixture)?

For lubricating springs, I like to use Victorinox multitool oil. This oil is pretty thick and it works well in reducing scratchy sound and ping noise coming from the springs.

For sliders, I use thin coat of Krytox grease and then I spread Krytox oil on top of the coat. The grease coat would make the oil spread out nicely, but I don't think it would be 100% necessary. Krytox is pretty good for lubing the sliders, because it is pretty slippery and would not change(react with oxygen and etc) or become sticky over time.

It is never a good idea to over apply grease or oil. If you can see the blob of oil or grease, I think you are doing it wrong.

I hope my little guide and description was helpful. Thanks!

It is.  But just to clarify one point: you would recommend Victorinox over formula 103 for springs?  Just wondering what the oil is for if you are saying it's not necessary.

I mix gpl 103 with the grease. I also use victorinox for the springs.

It is.  But just to clarify one point: you would recommend Victorinox over formula 103 for springs?  Just wondering what the oil is for if you are saying it's not necessary.

Lubing springs:
Yes. I tried Krytox grease, oil, oil/grease mix on springs, but I prefer Victorinox multi tool over them. I like the multi tool oil on springs for the following reasons:
1. It is CHEAP and easy to get (search ebay)
2. It is high viscosity oil(thick).
3. It reduces scratchy sound coming from springs and takes care of ringing sound (reduces vibration of springs)

I personally think any thick oil will do when it comes to lubricating springs. It doesn't have to be high-performance oil such as Krytox.

Is grease necessary?
I said in previous post something is not 100% necessary. I meant grease. Oil only lube job worked just fine for me. Grease helps and with grease you could get better results, but using grease is more risky in that using too much could change feel of switches quite significantly. Using grease has similar risk of using high viscosity oil on sliding surfaces. When it is used properly it should help, but if not it could be disastrous.

How about Krytox?
Before trying Krytox, I tried several kinds of lube and grease. I can say this for certain that Krytox was the best among the lube I own. I think Krytox shines on large sliding surfaces.

I began my journey for lube because my 5-year old HHKB needed a lube job. I started with different lube I could get for cheap, but they didn't help much. Failing to find good enough lube for cheap, I turned my attention to high-end lube. Since I heard good things about Krytox at KBDMania, I tried them although price tag was pretty high. Krytox worked well and I stopped searching for better lube.

TL;DR
No need to use expensive Krytox on springs.
Krytox is especially good on sliding surfaces.

How many switches on avg will these sets do?

A good question. I lubed 20 red switches and I used about 0.05g of oil and 0.01g of grease. The scale I used is cheapo ebay digital scale, so margin of error could be large, yet I think it is good enough to answer your question.

Using conservative measurement of oil and grease used (say 0.06g and 0.02g), the set is enough to lube 4666 switches with oil and 5000 switches with grease. So, you should be able to lube about give or take 45 full keyboards.

I took some pictures during the process and added some descriptions.

I would like to announce that
1) 12 more grease set is now available.
2) 61 lubricated and stickered Cherry MX switches are for sale. I am asking for $27 + shipping.

I am glad the set arrived with no problem. And that's a great photo of the set!

Try out the grease by putting a small amount on a surface and spread them out. You will feel the magic if you rub your fingers over the surface. I use it on my hard surface mouse pad and it works pretty well.

2) 61 lubricated and stickered Cherry MX switches are for sale. I am asking for $27 + shipping.

Are these just standard reds?

Got my set the other day. I use Blacks and can't really feel a difference. Maybe I am doing it wrong.
I added some grease on the sliders and legs and then added the oil with the oiler. I only used a small amount of grease and enough oil to cover the whole slider. Maybe it's because I haven't lubed the springs yet

Yes. They are from Poker, hence 61 switches.

Full disclosure: One stem is kind of worn out due to metal caps, so I am going to include a few black switches.

Press the key caps from side or press corners of larger non-stabilized keys. Those are the places where it is easy to notice the effect. I hope you find it useful.

To everyone who are interested but not yet purchase the lube set:
I am moving soon. If you are interested in purchasing a set, please hurry because when I begin packing I wouldn't be able to make more sets with extra lube I have. I kind of doubt that I would be enthusiastic about selling more either. I currently have 6 sets of grease and if I don't get more orders during first two days of next week, I wouldn't offer any more.

To everyone who received the sets:
I hope you enjoy them. I personally think they are really good stuff, grease and oil.

Just tried it, and the feeling is smoother when pressed like that. I think that in order to really appreciate this mod, I have to lube the springs.
Thanks limmy, it really is a great little set :D

Spring lube really helps. I think it is totally worth it. If you get a chance, I would recommend you put on switch stickers as well. Do it all at once.

Anyways, any job done on switches is more noticeable when you actually type on them. (multiple switches when in use)

When I first did the mod, I did half of my keyboard because 1) I wanted to see its effect and 2) I hated the repetitive work, but I ended up modding all the switches after a while because I could feel and hear the little gritty surface of non-modded switches.

Good to hear that you got your stuff with no issues.

You can use the extra container in any way you want.

One way would be to mix the grease with the oil. You can also store some oil there if you like to use brush and so forth.

I believe Plate Switches requires them to be de-soldered to disassemble them for oiling the springs and plunger. If a person just wants smoother stabilizers they would only need grease. I just need to be brave enough to risk opening my Filcos; how many keyboards can be oiled or greased with the complete set?

Desoldering was hard for me until I found Radioshack desoldering iron. After I got that desoldering iron, desoldering was pretty easy.

Anyways, my approximation is that the complete set could lube about 40 keyboards. (See here to see how I got that number: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44373.msg930717#msg930717 )

Hi, the lube is for sliding surfaces. You can get a general idea where to lube from this photo. http://imgur.com/a/zed65#7

For springs, I would use thicker oil than what I am offering. I had pretty good results with Victorinox multi-tool oil for lubing springs. I put a small drop on the stem of a slider where it touches the spring.

Thank you for the order! Now there are 8 sets left.

I have tried various lube that was under $10 prior to this and I finally settled with Krytox. I knew about Krytox before the search, but I was hoping to find good enough lube that would be acceptable. However, I wasn't able to find a good enough lube in consumer grade products. After trying out about 10 different kinds of lube, I thought it was economical to get my hands on this expensive lube. It was so much better than several lube I tried and I didn't feel I needed better lube, so I stopped the search.

Also, I think the precision oiler is best way to apply the lube. You can apply it precisely where you want it with superb control of the amount applied. Moreover, it reduces wasted lube. The included needle gauge is not randomly selected but was selected by trying out different gauges.

Also, the grease. I don't like to use a lot of Krytox grease since it tends to make sliding surface sluggish. However, it has its merits because grease will stick to surface. I like to use just enough that the applied oil can stay in place. I think Krytox grease is essential for the purpose because Krytox oil does not mix well grease other than Krytox grease. I dip the needle tip to the grease and spread the grease + oil. I think it works pretty well that way.

All paid orders have shipped. I have 7 set available.

You may consider the precision oiler as a brush with a huge reservoir of lube. You don't need go back and forth to get more lube on the brush.

So if I have a tiny soft brush, would it be better to gently apply the grease and then rub that layer with the needle of the precision oiler to combine grease with oil--or better to dip the needle into grease and apply both at the same time?  Which would result in a more precise application?

That is a good question. I think a brush is a tool that can result in huge deviation of outcome depending on your skill. If you can use it well, it could do better job of applying thin coat of grease. However, I think it is not so convenient even if you are very good. To do a good job with your brush, you would need to know how much lube/grease in already on your brush and it is hard to know until you try it out on a surface. When using a brush, artists usually test it out on a pallet. With enough attention, you should be able to get consistent results with brush.

The precision oiler should give you consistent result regardless of your skill set. The amount of oil applied is going to be visible without having to test it on surface. Amount of grease on tip of needle is also visible. You can easily control the amount that is on the needle.

Now, back to your question. Which of the two give you more consistent result, dipping the needle or using a brush? My answer would be that it would depend on your skill level and how are have developed familiarity with your tool. Which is more convenient? I like precision oiler better. That is why I am using it, bought in bulk and selling the rest.

That would be a good idea. Maybe it is better to get a separate pallet like plate or shallow dish for the purpose.

I forgot to pack the red switches though.. The 61 fully modded(sticker + spring lube + slider lube) red PCB mount switches are for sale. $27 shipped  within CONUS. That is less then $0.5 for a fully modded switch.

Hi,

I'm going to get an Ergodox with MX Clear. Some guys told me that I need to change springs on them, to get 62g or 65g springs and then this switches will be called "Ergo Clear" and might be better than stock ones. Once I do this, I'll take the opportunity to lubricate the switches. I watch some videos on youtubes (WhiteFireDragon) and now know how to lub switches. But there is still something I need to know: what lub will I use for the task ?

Somebody told me you sell the best high-end lub for keyboard, so I went here and find your sale. I've read the thread and you said "No need to use expensive Krytox on springs. Krytox is especially good on sliding surfaces". I want to buy 1 or 2 set, but it will not be everything needed to lubricate my Ergodox's switches ? Does it required this (http://www.ebay.fr/itm/VICTORINOX-Taschenmesserol-Multi-Tool-Ol-Nr-4-3301-/260777120862?pt=DE_Haus_Garten_Garten_Hand_Gartenger%C3%83%C2%A4te&hash=item3cb787145e#ht_912wt_1360) for springs and your set for the rest of the switch ?

Hi,

I think it is best to use thicker oils for springs. I hypothesize that thicker oils reduces vibration and also do a very good job in reducing scratching noise. It is not about friction when it comes to springs. I had success with using the Victorinox multi-tool oil you linked. So, yes, I would recommend you use them for springs.

On the sliding surfaces where friction could be an issue, I would recommend low viscosity Krytox oil. One way to test a lube is to rub it with your fingers. If it feels slippery in your hand, it is likely it works well with sliding surfaces.

If you order more than one set, shipping unfortunately increases by $2 for each additional set if you are outside the US. So $40 will be your total if you order two.

For Cherry switches, I didn't feel a need to lube it more than once. However, I have used this for about a year, so I don't have much knowledge about longevity of the lube job more than a year. One thing to note about Krytox is that it is very stable and does not oxidize or react with other chemicals. So, I can comfortably say that it is going to last longer than most of ordinary lube.

More information on the oiler (Please read if you are interested in the oiler)
More
Description:

Show Image
(http://i.imgur.com/K6whNAx.jpg)

Lasered black key caps. Nice and thick.
shipping from 14850 weighs 5lb.

I will include either gold or silver metal sticker sheet(choose one) if you buy the G81 keyboard. The sticker is meant to be used to put legends on front side of key caps, like the one you see in HHKB. Font used in this sticker is very similar to side prints of HHKB (I would say 99% match)

Sigh. This is a serious necro.. Check the geekhackers vendor forum; krytox packs are available now there.

Speaking of necro, limmy's gb was how I was first introduced to krytox...
