Better than non-G1 Meka. Wait, that's almost any keyboard.

I don't know, looks like they went back to iRocks again, or maybe solid year with the odd mods and 6.75 (why? I mean really what the ****?) spacebar size. Definitely not costar like the G1s.

At least it doesn't have so ugly case and big-ass Enter.

Hmn, maybe it is 7. It's hard to tell.

It could be 6.75.  Ctrl and Alt look like 1.25 instead of 1.5 but I suck at counting so it's possible lol.

I wonder what the top right corner button does.

And it sucks how they showcase the Costar backlit version last year at Computex but didn't really go through.

If control and alt are 1.25 and the other bottom row keys are 1 then space must be 7, no?

Yeah, it's hard to tell. I think it is 7 units, but it looks like the switch may not be in the center judging from the led spot... so it could still be a nightmare for key replacement, along with the caps lock keycap as it looks like it won't fit standard stepped 1.25 position or fulltouch 1.75 but something in between with it's 1.5 orientation. I just wish these OEM would stop doing wacky ****. There are 2 standards, 1.5/7 or 1.25/6.25, pick one damn it!

Yeah I don't think they realize they're actually losing sales because of that.

They may lose some sales to our crowd, but then they really aren't catering to us, but the OMG its a gamer keyboard set. Those people usually have no idea you can even replace keycaps.

But as far as I know the Meka G1 Illuminated (which is Costar) is already on sale and a Thermaltake employee that I know has already confirmed that they're selling it...

Though I don't know if it's anything new, Mionix Zibal 60 has already been around for ages and it's basically almost the same keyboard as the Tt Meka G1 Illuminated... And unfortunately, it doesn't sells any better than any iOne Scorpius U9BL rebranding.

The one they're still planning on what to do is the Tt Meka G-Unit, which is from i-Rocks...

But o' well, as soon as they're not rebranding iOne keyboards I guess it's all ok...

Actually... isn't that the design of the Leopold FC300/500? The badge at the top right is especially similar (although, the modifier lengths do indeed seem different)...

Well, it's good to see they're finally learning from the Meka G1's primary issue. That being: it was too damn expensive. Especially for the atrociously low quality keycaps - I mean really, $140? nope.jpg

That said, hard to say who the OEM is. Thermaltake uses multiple OEMs for keyboards. The bottom row looks to be:
1.25-1-1.25-7-1.25-1-1-1.25 for a total of 3.5-7-4.5, 15 total.

Rather surprised they didn't do the same as the Meka G1 with the Fn key. It was a better and smarter location on the G1 than this one.

Yeah I wonder why they need 2 similar backlit mechanical keyboards.  http://www.ttesports.com/products/product.aspx?p=46&g=ftr

Though I find the issue with Mionix Zibal 60 and Thermaltake MEKA G1 is MX Black switch.  If they have either MX Brown or MX Red available I'd say they'd sell a lot better.  After that I guess red LED is ok, but green led is definitely not popular.  If they sell blue LED it might sell better.

Well, look at how many variants of the Meka G1 they came up with. I mean don't get me wrong, the CST-104 is a nice solid performer. (And they made one where the stabilizers don't feel like complete crap, which is NOT easy.) But it sure wasn't a $140-150 value with the keycaps they used. The margins on that thing have got to be over 50% - they could have afforded to put non-junk keycaps on it.

But yes, the lack of switch variety was also a problem. The Meka G1 was intro'd very, very early in the current hype cycle and they were looking for the "50M" number. Which at the time of introduction, was only the MX Black. This was before anybody had an MX Red pretty much, too. I don't know why they didn't expand the offering with different switches and only did different paint jobs though. When Ramson left, I think they lost the sane guy. :(

Meka G1 PRIME Edition has MX Brown. I think I've seen G1 with MX Red as well, but maybe I'm just confusing it with Meka G-UNIT (which is currently offered with both reds and blacks).

Ohhh MEKA G1 PRIME Edition indeed has MX Brown !!!  But the colour on that thing  >_______>

It's almost like they fixed 1 problem but created 2 new problems.

And the most ridiculous thing is that all the other variations that don't look like crap (G1 Combat White, G-Unit Combat White, G-Unit Battle Edition) all use Cherry MX Black...

lol I know eh?  I like G-Unit combat white.  They've should've done that on MEKA G1 Combat white (white instead of black keycaps) and slap on MX Red/Brown switch and bam instantly sell way more than whatever number they're selling right now.

Actually what they should've done is have half the amount of different color variants/special editions and just focus on having different switch types like Ducky/CM Storm did.  Even Razer has MX Brown now and SteelSeries got MX Red now.  Corsair is coming out with MX Blue and Brown on the K70.  Come on Thermaltake !!!

The G1 got black keycaps because those were the cheap ones. That's all there is to it. (Seriously. The keycaps they used are the cheapest junk ever.) Meanwhile, the G-Unit is nowhere near the quality of the G1 which is why it gets slightly more expensive keycaps - all the costs got taken out of the functional parts. Seriously - the G-Unit is a horrible steaming pile of crap.

Like I said: these date to the very beginning of the hype cycle as well. Which is why you get the gold plated blah blah crap.
