Title: keyboard with Model M style case but with Cherry switches?
Post by: jksteger on Thu, 06 June 2013, 08:34:31
As the title says, I love case style of the IBM Model M and all the keyboards that are shaped like it.  Unicomp, various Keytronic, etc.  I'm looking for a keyboard that has the same "footprint" or case as these "Model M" style but with switches that are NOT RD or BS.

It seems like I remember having one and typing on one that was "clicky" and very light to type on, almost like the Green Alps XM switches that Ducky has in the low end boards, back around 1994 or 1995.  I recall it may have had the large L shaped enter key.  I purchased it at Wal-Mart for about $20 back then.  Of course back then it was 'just a keyboard', LOL.

If anyone knows of a model that is mechanical and has the same shape as a Model M, please pass it along.  I will be looking on eBay for it as I'm sure that no one makes a new model.

thanks GHer's

Cherry G80-1000 are probably going to be one of the closest in styling and footprint. Some versions of the Chicony 51*1 models with a similar styling have MX switch, but they also use the same model numbers for Alps and other switch types so you have to be pretty careful.
