Title: PBT Keycaps
Post by: Danule on Sun, 09 June 2013, 15:05:29
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these keycaps before they look quite nice.

Thanks!

I have the nonlettered white version of those keycaps, and I quite like them.  They're nice and thick, and have a good amount of texture to them (for instance, they are rougher than the other PBT caps I have used, which are the stock caps that come with Realforces).

I have a question about the profile of the keys. It says they are cherry, is that contoured, staircase or flat?

Is the space bar PBT as well?

Thanks again!

There are three types of keycaps that are generally considered the best keycaps out there. Of course everyone has preferences but usually everyone will consider one of the following to be their favourite.

1. KBC (Imsto) thick PBT dyesub(the ones you linked)
2. BSP (original Cherry) thick PBT dyesub
3. GMK or original Cherry thick ABS doubleshot

I owned the exact caps you linked and they were very high quality. I sold them because I wanted some GMK caps but I'm sure you'd be happy with the KBC ones.

They are contoured -- "cherry profile" refers to the overall height of them -- they are somewhat shorter than the corresponding keys that come stock on filco/ducky/CM/etc. keyboards.

FWIW, I slightly prefer the GMK ABS doubleshots, but I also kind of like the glossy used look and feel.  You absolutely can't go wrong with the imsto PBTs.

EDIT:: Yes, the spacebar is PBT as well.

I like my Ducky more, personally, because it has a denser feel to it in the way the switches resonate when pressed. Ducky Shine feels more dampened over 2 Filco Majestouch-2TKL I've tried.  But then it's a very subjective preference.

But that purple filco in your avatar looks so nice!  Is the quality that much better?  I may have to wait for the shine 3 to come out then since I can't find anyting with brown switch right now for ducky.

No no, everyone loves Filcos,  you can't go wrong with either keyboard!

Has anyone had any issues putting these thick keycaps on a filco? I hear some people experience scratching on the keys that have the wire stabilizers.

I did not have any issues (mine are currently on a Filco).

I have, however, heard of other people getting scratching, and I can see how there would be very little clearance for the stabilizer wire.
