Title: Help finding side printed key caps.
Post by: Fixall on Thu, 13 June 2013, 01:12:41
Hey everyone at Geekhack!

First of all I just want to thank you all for providing such a wonderful database of information on keyboards!  You've made becoming educated on the various keyboards and their switches these past several months very enjoyable for me.  :)

Anyways, to get into the meat of things...  I just recently became the proud owner of my very first mechanical keyboard (CMStorm Quickfire Rapid with Cherry MX Blues) which I picked up from a [H] forum member for $45 shipped (too hard for me to walk away from considering it's in almost new condition).  As far as the quality and feel of the keyboard...  I couldn't be happier and only regret not switching to a mechanical sooner.  Unfortunately I find the font and the badging absolutely garish.  What I'm hoping to find is a set of 87 side printed key caps.  They can be either black with white print or blue with black print (prefer black w/white).  I don't mind if they are ABS or PBT, etc, but I'm hoping not to spend a fortune (under $35 or so would be wonderful).  I've tried looking through the various links provided on the site but can't seem to find any in stock (besides a set for $80 and a set for $95).

Thanks in advance!!

I'm selling a set of brand new & unused Filco Ninja ABS keycaps if you're interested (and may be flexible on price a bit) here:

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=43557

Where are you (for shipping) as I'd obviously need to work that out.

Yea, I had looked at those, I just wasn't too keen on spending that much on keys in a color I wasn't too fond of.  The white on black Duckys are out of stock.  :(  The gold on black is a possibility although I'm not too sure how I feel about the gold, and the price is still a bit higher than I'm hoping to pay ($45 keyboard, I'm on a budget!  lol).  :(

Qtan also sells some in his webstore, you can also find him on ebay. I think you even have the option of side printed PBT keycaps

I'll weigh them when I get home and drop you a PM.  Is there a price that you definitely don't want to pay over?  Just as my price including shipping will definitely be over the $35 mentioned in your original post.

Too be honest $35 shipped probably is unfortunately the max I would be willing to pay (which I completely understand you not being able to do since shipping from the U.K. will be high).  Just don't think I could bring myself to spend more than that on a set of stock ABS, pad printed key caps.  :/

A CMStorm rep told me they'll soon be selling the "stealth" keycaps through there online store, but who knows when "soon" is.

Yeah - I'll look into shipping but at a guess it'd be about $7 - $10 which doesn't leave much over for my beer fund savings...

Anyway - I'll PM you later on

A set of PBT caps would be pretty sweet.  :)  I sent him an message on ebay since it didn't look like he was showing any on the webstore...

PM me your address, and I'll send you a set of Filco Ninja caps. They're brand new. If you're CONUS, that is. If not, we'll need to discuss shipping.

!!!

Wow.

That would be incredible!  Thank you so very much!!

I'm a little in shock about the generosity and helpfulness found on this forum.

It doesn't come close to giving away a set of Ninja Keycaps...  But the next two people to send me a message will get an Alan Wake Collectors Edition + American Nightmare expansion Steam key.  :)

P.S.
With a third going to Moose if he would like it.  :)

Paying forward things is very nice. I already have those games, so you could also give out the third as well. I will get the caps sent out sometime this week.

Thought I'd give a small picture update.  :D  Please excuse the image quality, they were taken in my kitchen (best light for cleaning out board chow, lol) with an iPhone.  >.<

Ugh...  This thing has no alibi!  Anyone need some stock Quickfire keycaps...?

Keycaps removed.  Keyboard chow cleaned.  Stabilizers greased (I know he's gone but thanks anyways Ripster).

And ta da!  Thanks again esoomenona, I love it!!

I have an all black replacement top case coming from CM Storm, which will just about complete it.

All I need now is to wait for a red 420 ClickClack to be produced (or sold at a reasonable price) and my first mechanical will be completely finished!  :D

P.S.
I looked back at the date of my first thread when I was first researching and asking for help about mechanical keyboards and found out this has been two years coming!  Thanks Geekhack!
