Title: Do Topres feel like scissor switches?
Post by: babyhands on Mon, 17 June 2013, 12:48:33
Hey guys. So I have heard topres feel like high quality rubber domes, but unfortunately I can't really imagine that. My internship gave me a macbook pro to use for the summer, and I was wondering how similar topres feel compared to the macbooks scissor switches, because I actually really really like them. Thanks!

If you wanting a good scissor switch board Logitech makes some nice ones, they even have one specifically for Mac!

Have you ever typed on a brand new rubber dome keyboard, where the keys still give a significant tactile bump at the start of the stroke? That's exactly what Topre switches feel like. Topre feel is nearly identical to normal rubber domes, with the key difference being that the actuation point is at the midpoint of the stroke instead of the bottom. Topre fans claim that this gives a very satisfying typing experience, though I've never typed on one long enough to confirm or deny this.

Well it depends on what your idea of scissor switch is..

The new lenovo chiclet style for example feels quite similar to regular rubber dome, which feels very similar to topre...

NO. I can't stand scissor switches ;( which makes it super difficult to use laptops.

Lenovo you say... Hmmmm need to look at those.

topre does not feel like scisor switch at all. especially not the horrible apple kind.  Lenovo thinkpads have very nice keyboards for a laptop.
