Title: Leopold FC2000R key "double tapping" problem
Post by: idltt on Mon, 17 June 2013, 13:36:43
hi,

i have owned this Leopold Tenkeyless FC2000R (MX Brown) for about 1 year, and in the last couple months i have noticed issues with my D key unintentionally "double-tapping".

basically, upon pressing OR releasing of the D key, it will routinely register at least one extra keypress (sometimes, it taps twice on the way down, then twice more on the way up...). so the literal result from typing a word like "ending" ends up being typed as "enddiddng".

by the way: i have switched my D keycap around, to see if it was actually an issue with the keycap, but i am sure it is not

has anyone noticed problems like this with any keys on their mechanical keyboard? could it be possible that dust/gunk/food has somehow underneath the top part of the switch??

i suppose the ultimate question i have is whether it makes sense to replace the entire key switch?

thank you for any advice you can give

It seems like it would make sense to replace the entire key switch.

I had this issue with my 700R with multiple switches. I was going to replace the switches until I heard of a fix the KMAC had. So I tried the following mod:

- Buy a rubber/soft kitchen drawer liner roll (I got mine from Target for $1.08/roll)
- Open the keyboard
- Cut a sheet of the liner roll that will fit the inside of the case bottom
- Place liner in the case bottom
- Clean the case bottom and any gunk near the switches
- Place PCB base into the case so the liner is sandwiched between the case bottom and the PCB
- Close the keyboard back up

The similar mod for the KMAC supposedly reduces the vibration and prevents shorting of the PCB. I just know that my fingers no longer hurt from the bottom out and the double typing issue has disappeared.

Let me know if you have any questions.

awesome!!! this would also prevent double tapping issues with other keys if they developed a similar problem

thank you for posting this. once i try it out, i will post here with the results

I have the same issue with one of my boards and would appreciate the feedback.

Is your 0 key double tapping as well or did you bring your keyboard back from the future?
