It's shame that it is US only. :(
Small typo in the OP: Pricing for the postage is $12.35 not $11.35.
That said, I went ahead and signed up!
This seems quite a bit different than the tester from a year ago. I'd like to hop on this bandwagon.
I didn't vomit on the last one you sent, so I assume I'm still a candidate?
Jw. What spring are you using for the ergo-clear switches?
I did not get the keyboard shipped out this morning like I had planned. Tomorrow for sure. :D
Sounds great. What is the updated list then? :)
Yep. Sign on up!
Any "reviews" from people who have actually tried all these switches side by side?
Just wondering what everyone's favorite ones are.

Hey guys I'm glad to tell you I just received the keyboard I will testing the keys soon and my review will be here tomorrow or Sunday. So stay tuned!
Essited!I might later this week ive just been really caught up with work lately . But if i get some time in between i will post a quick review of my favorite switches. :p
Gonna post a review?I might later this week ive just been really caught up with work lately . But if i get some time in between i will post a quick review of my favorite switches. :P Ps. was meant to be quoted to you just quoted tim by accident ;D
Nope. That's how you make Ghetto Greens for sure (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_MX_Ghetto_Green). If you think they feel different from regular Greens, it's probably placebo.
And I'm going to swap Black springs into my Whites as well.
Did you type on keyboards with full sets or use a switch tester when you tried them? I've found that it's a lot harder to tell the difference between similar switches if I'm not actually typing with them. I know that when I swapped the white springs for black springs I had a hard time telling on an individual key basis, but after typing for a while the difference was noticeable. But maybe that's just me.
Alrighty, so here is my grandiose impressions of all the switches presented to me from the Ultimate Switch Tester. Before I start, I'd like to take a second to thank Hashbaz for creating this tour to allow me and everybody else the opportunity to try the myriad of switch possibilities out there at very little to no expense!! I'd also like to thank Bossborot who as Hashbaz has said, took the time and expense to make this keyboard a possibility!!!
Here's how we're going to work this I'm going to break up this list into two sections, one section will contain the un-modified switches, and the other the modified switches. I will list each switch and the impression I got from that switch directly afterwards. Now, it is pertinent for me to say that I only have personal experience with Cherry MX Blue & Green switches, so that's why I was so excited for this opportunity! Anyway, let's begin
ROUND ONE, FIGHT!!!! (Un-Modified Cherry-MX Switches)
Red: First time trying reds, and I have to say I don't hate it, but I don't particularly enjoy it either. The linearity of it combined with the lightness of the spring, it just doesn't do anything for me.
Blue: Been there, done that. Love the clickyness and sound of blues. Will say thought that I would prefer they were just a tad heavier.
Black: Same linearity as reds, but slightly heavier. Much more enjoyable than reds, would consider buying a keyboard with blacks.
Brown: Spent a lot of time on this one, really didn't feel all that different to me than reds do. The tactile bump doesn't seem pronounced to me at all, might have something to do with the lightness of the spring. Not crazy about this one.
Green: Using my CM Storm Trigger w/ Greens to type this review! Love green switches to death because they just feel so solid, and again, I love my clicky switches!
White: Wow, it's amazing that a switch with the same properties as greens can feel so different. They should nickname these switches "Muted Greens" because that's exactly what they sound like. Also feel lighter than greens do, which is weird because according to the GH Wiki, whites have a "very heavy" spring as opposed to greens "medium-heavy" spring.
Dark Grey: Feels like a red but with much heavier spring. If you haven't noticed I have a thing for heavier springs, because heavier springs are for real men.... just kidding :p. Would definitely consider buying a whole keyboard with these.
Grey: I can definitely feel the tactile bump on this one, other than that I like the actuation force, so same impressions as Dark Greys with this switch, would buy.
Clear: Feels like a lighter Dark Grey with a very pronounced tactile bump. I like it, would buy.
Toggle: Never knew they made Cherry Toggle switches. I want to point out something however. Apparently the Toggle switch with the lighter spring is to the left of the regular toggle switch... Well nothing for nothing but the one to the left that's supposedly lighter does not in fact, feel lighter than the regular toggle switch. I'd dare say it feels a lot heavier, so that just might be an error in the graph, or maybe I'm batsh*t insane who knows :p
ROUND TWO, FIGHT!!!!! (Modified Switches)
Ergo Clear: Seen many of my fellow GH'er's running ergo-clears in their custom-built keyboards, so I'm a bit excited to see what all the buzz is about! Well the verdict is pretty simple, I do like them! Very crisp action on these, much like the Wiki says, but again, I do wish it was a tadddd heavier. Definitely wouldn't mind my very own ergo-clear board though!
Ghetto Red: Feels exactly like a red... nuff said.
Red w/ Black Spring: Feels exactly like a black.... nuff said
Red w/ Clear Spring: Feels a little heavier than reds....
Black w/ Clear Spring: Same as above...
Brown w/ Clear Spring: Not as crisp as ergo clears, feels sloppy like browns do.
Brown w/ Black Spring: Feels better than browns w/ clear springs, but still doesn't interest me.
Blue w/ Clear Spring: LOVE IT!!!! Love the sound it makes too, it's everything I love about blues, but with a slightly heavier spring.... LOVE IT! Nice and crisp too... NOMNOMNOM!
White w/ Clear Spring: Now see this is weird because now the click is more pronounced... with just a different spring? So weird man, but I really do like these, not as crisp as the blue w/ clear though.
Blue w/ Black Spring: LOVE! this a little more than the blue w/ clear spring.... I think I know what I'm going to mod my Pure Pro with now.... ^-^
White w/ Black Spring: The quiet man's blue w/ black spring, I love it!
ROUND THREE, FIGHT!!!! (B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B... BONUS ROUND!)
So what does it feel like to type on a board with a myriad of different switches on it? Well it feels really freaking weird let me tell you what! I mean obviously we aren't always typing at our fastest typing speed, so during those moments when you're slowly typing a word out, and you go to press that one letter, suddenly the switch you hit has COMPLETELY different properties than the last, and it just causes an odd feeling in the muscles of your hand.
Doing a quick test on www.10fastfingers.com solidifies something about myself that I already knew. It doesn't really matter which keyboard I'm typing on, I can generally type almost the same speed on every keyboard. What matters to me in terms of typing speed is the size and shape of the keycap, which can be a problem on some laptops and whatnot. Anyway, I managed a pretty speedy 109 words per minute on that 10fastfingers test, and could probably do better with subsequent tests.
Conclusions
So this was incredibly interesting I must say, and there's quite a few things I've learned from using the UST, so I'm just going to list them out.
-Will never buy a board with Red or Browns
-Love Ergo-Clears, given the money and resources I'd get my own board with ergo-clears
-LOVE LOVE LOVE! Blues with black springs, definitely going to mod my Pure Pro with black springs when I get the chance!
-Love me them White w/ black springs as well, would be nice to mod a board with these on them, and use it in the work-space
-Would consider buying a keyboard with Blacks, Dark Greys, or even Greys
ANNNNNNDDDD that's it ladies and gentlemen, hope you enjoyed the review! Thanks again to Hashbaz & Bossborot for making this possible! I will keep the board for another day or two and perhaps make changes to some of my impressions, and then ship it out to the next person!
PEACE OUT!
Hm, interesting. On a side note, I think it'd be an interesting angle for a manufacturer to certify their boards in such a way that it guarantees a very low actuation variance between each switch as well as guaranteeing that the characteristics of that switch type (clicky, tactile bump, etc) are present in every single switch. So in practice it'd be like "each switch in this board is guaranteed to to have no higher than a 2-3cN variance from the manufacturer's rated actuation force and all switch characteristics are guaranteed to be present."
Then again.... they'd probably charge out the arse for it.... but people would probably pay for it ^-^
Just an update for you all, I will almost definitely ship out the UST to the next person tomorrow. If for some reason I can't, then definitely Friday!
*Update* Postage has been paid, will ship out during lunch today and will notify when the package leaves my hands.
Ladies & Gentlemen, the UST has left my hands and is now in the care of USPS. Although due to my awesome packing job, it should have no problem making it safely to shadewolf!

Actually, I've found USPS to be very efficient and trustworthy here. I sent an 18 pound package from Columbus to Belize for under $20. It made it there in 3 days. FedEx quoted me over $300 and told me it would take a week. Since then I've had a little more faith in USPS.
UST received!
Great review Jack! It's really nice seeing somebody super excited about testing the UST. Your enthusiasm really shines through your review and it makes me smile :) thank you!
Reminds me of the previous UST round... XD
dang, I'm too late...
Yep, this thing will be in more or less perpetual rotation.
Prior to receiving the UST, I'd tried out the following switches: Blue, Red, Green, and Brown.
I had ultimately decided on Browns as my favorite switch, with Red's coming in as a close second. I didn't have any major complaints about Blues aside from the audible click, which got to be a bit much at work. I found Greens to be too fatiguing to type on all day.
I think my top 5 after poking at this thing for awhile looks something like:
1. Ergo Clear
2. White w/ Light spring
3. Brown / Red / Ghetto Red
4. Blue with Black springs
5. Clear
I'm not really sure about those Clear's in the fifth spot though, as I think they might also get a little tiring after an extended amount of typing. Aside from that, I don't really like Blacks or any of the other switches with Black or Clear springs...but maybe I should give Clear w/ Black springs some more love :-\
It has been awesome to be able to check out all of these switches on the same board, so a huge thanks to hashbaz for arranging this, and BossBorot for building this awesome board. Now there just needs to be a Topre board tour ;)
Oh, and here's Big Daddy hanging out with the UST :))Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/ED2H9jk.jpg)

Still curious as to the springs that BossBorot used for the ergoclears. I second that Topre board tour XD
The UST has arrived in my office. I will take it home and test it out over the next few days and write a review. I'm psyched!
Does anyone know when I'm supposed to get the next guy's address? I PMed hashbaz but he hasn't replied.
still waiting for the address of next tester.
Sweet!
@Quardah I'd be happy to do a Canadian tour if there's sufficient interest.

If by interest you mean having a great tour of the metropole that is Montréal, i can provide this fairly easy. Anyone who comes in Montréal and contact me beforehand, i'm willing to show you guys the funny spots (as we are a city mostly known for our party addiction and incredible places to visit).

He meant instead of only having the board in CONUS, opening up the ultimate switch tester tour to be in Canada. Not physically coming to Montreal to bring you the tester.
Ready to send out the keyboard, I just need the address of the next tester.
Here's my mini-review. I'm going to focus on the standard switches since I haven't tried a mechanical switch before.
Reds: Light switch. Doesn't feel like a rubber done like some people say. Don't really like the linear feel. Can't see myself buying a board with these.
Blacks: Too heavy. Again, dislike the linear feel.
Browns: The tactile bump is noticeable, but small. I kinda like these switches and will probably buy my first board with these.
Clears: Definitely a more noticeable tactile feel. Doesn't feel too heavy. Now I'm torn between these and browns.
Ergo-clears: Love these. If I could buy a board with these I would be very happy.
Blues: Love the clicky sound. Definitely going to buy a board with these when I don't have to worry about bothering a roommate :))
Greens: Too heavy like the clears. Not really considering it at this point.
White: Not clicky enough. Also a tad on the heavier side.
Arbiter has a look at Chief's email, which simply says can i haz recon plz, with a lot of extra Zs.
Arbiter: It doesn't look like you put any thought into this e-mail. All you've written is "can i haz recon", and the word plz, and it looks like you just held the Z key down for five minutes.
Master Chief: i think the moar zs i put in plz, teh mawr chans they r wil give meh rec0n
Arbiter: I don't think that's how it works, Chief. [...]

Being USA only and me in Canada, I guess I might have to try DT to see about trying some other switches.
Quardah -- chill please. I did a Canadian tour once before. After this tour is over we can see how much interest there is.

Blues and greens are the same switch mechanism, so only the difference is their color and the weight of the spring inside. I tend to type energetically, so I like the green better than the blue since I bottom out less, and it just feels better to me overall. When I got back into mechanical keyboards a few years ago, I decided to try blues and used blue switch Filco boards exclusively for two years. During that time, I tried my best to lighten my typing style, but I kept consistently bottoming out, either because I'm too set in my ways, or there was just not enough tactility for me to feel the activation point when I am up to speed.
I didn't like the browns much at all, because they are very light, and there is almost no tactile feel in them at all to me. Clears are great, because they are heavy and have an even bigger tactile bump than the greens (although they feel pretty similar with the stock spring). The ergo clears (clears with light spring) were the biggest surprise because they still have a very large tactile bump, but are a lighter touch to activate. They almost feel like they should slot in between blues and greens in weight because of the bump. I suspect that when using ergo clears, I might be able to train myself to type with a lighter touch, since I'd be able to feel that big tactility even when going full speed. IMO, ergo clears are what browns should have been all along--they are exactly how I've always seen browns described (tactile, non-clicky). Ergo clears are really the closest feel to buckling spring of any of the Cherry switches, IMO.
I hope that helps!

Ok. I am therefore now looking for a Green Mx and Clear MX board. Cuz you know, when i read your previous post above i realise we have something in common; we both hit hard. I tend to bottom-out on all the board i have/had. Red was simply too light, blacks aren't so bad but i bottom out 50% of my type and i bottom brown hard!

I don't think I understand how someone is able to type and not bottom out. I probably bottom out 99.9% of the time on any keyboard I use.
hum yeah, i believe it is optimal for you not to bottom out, as bottoming out makes you slower. Also hits the bottom of the switch, means faster wearing out i guess.
the closer you get to the actuation point, with an 100% accuraccy of getting it all the time, the best typist you will be.

I observe the opposite. Attempting to be lighter on the keys and not bottom out makes me so much slower. 101 WPM to 87 WPM on a quick unscientific attempt.
I would need to test this also.
For info, how do you test your words per minute?

I believe there are European switch tester projects administered by Mr Interface on deskthority.org. If there's sufficient interest I have no problem sending this one overseas.I really hope so. This is a great idea.
My first impression is that you could hand me a board with any one of these switches and I would adapt and use it without complaint. Since there are options, here is my unscientific evaluation.
Foreword:
I'm used to Cherry MX Browns and recently acquired a board with Reds and modified it with O rings. If you are new to mechanical keyboards like I am and do the research before buying your first board, I'd venture to say that you probably came to the same conclusion and bought a board with Browns. After all, it is often touted as the best all-rounder. However, Browns actually turn out to be one of my least favorite switches on this board. More to follow.Show Image(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-byk8oEXpxpA/UhErg6g6K4I/AAAAAAAADk8/jMtKbqXYAhc/s640/image.jpeg)
A couple observations:
Once I start typing, I immediately notice that the grey switch in the spacebar is too heavy, causing me to mistype. I'm really enjoying the clicky keys but am a little wary of them with an infant sleeping in the next room.
Testing:
Sensation
Comparing Linear (Red, Black);
This switch type feels very clean compared to the others. I'm still bottoming out even with Black since it's the only feedback I'm getting. Blacks feel sturdy when spamming the key but Reds modified with O rings provide a better experience. I quite like them for all-round use but remember, I'm bottoming out 75% of the time so I rely on that bounce at the end of the stroke.
Comparing Tactile (Brown, Clear, ErgoClear);
I barely notice the tactile feedback on the browns. While that is not a bad thing, it doesn't differentiate itself enough from linear reds. Think of the feedback on the browns as a little scratch or resistant spot while the clears produce more of a "pulse" sensation. ErgoClears feel a bit like Browns but obviously with a Clear pulse. The weight of the spring in the stock clears seems to lend itself to the experience and the ErgoClear to me, feels like it has lost that. I definitely prefer the Clears. (Wife assessment - "I prefer the ones in the bottom middle (ErgoClear)")
Comparing Clicky (Blue, Green, White);
Damn I love that click but it's hard to justify the noise level. Audible feedback combined with tactile response greatly helps me bottom out less. If I could muffle the sound a bit, there would be harmony. Perhaps soft landing pads (as mentioned by CaptainBadass in his review) would help with the accoustics. This is not really a switch type for O rings. Stock Blues and Blues with Clear spring are my favorite in this category due to the weight. (Wife assessment - "They feel like I'm typing with long nails")
Weight
The 45g spring in Reds and Browns may be a tad light for me but still quite usable. Moving on to Blue (rated at 50g), spring weight feels the same but the tactile and audible feedback reduce bottoming out.
55g Clears feel great and are where I would stop. In what is obviously an illusion, I found it odd that stock Clears feel like they take less force than the same spring in a Red or Black switch. Perhaps due to me pressing the linear switches all the way down and half way in the tactile. I also like the Clear spring in the Blue and White switches.
60g in the Black feels a little heavy. I wouldn't want to spend too much time typing on these.
80g in Greens, Grays, Whites etc. are just too heavy. I miss keystrokes all over the place.
Conclusion:
Each switch presents its own ideals and its own target audience, so knowing what I do now which would I buy?. My taste seems to be very middling so I present you a list of switches in the order of my personal preference:
1 - Clear
2 - Blue or white with Clear spring
3 - Red (modified with O rings), Blue
3 - ErgoClear
4 - Brown (stock or Clear spring)
No Want - Black, White, Green, Gray, rest of heavies...
Using the Universal Switch Tester has been a very enlightening experience and I'm glad I had a chance to be a part of the tour. Thank you Hashbaz for making it available!Show Image(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M3gfD59h5_A/UhEriqj80tI/AAAAAAAADlE/nPoAz8EvwCM/s640/image_1.jpeg)

It's the Filco in the middle.
Wait till you try 62g springs on Clears. The springs on the ergoclears on the UST definitely feel different than 62g springs. There is less of a stick and the weight feels just right. Not too heavy but not too light.

Are those Korean 62g springs? Where do you buy them? I've already been thinking that a weight partway between 55 and 80g with that big clear switch tactile bump would feel just about as good as an MX switch could ever be for me.
azth told me he was going to be out of town. If I don't hear back from him soon I'll have ImperfectLink send it to me and we'll start another tour.
That's three Canadians so far.
This is an amazing idea.. Am I able to get in on this? Or should I not get my hopes up because I'm new to GH.
Edit: NVM I'm in Canada :'(
Another Canadian here that is interested!
