Says 2 on the box...and I need to buy a PS/2 extension cable as it didn't come with any...oh well, lol.
Anyway the keys feel almost the same as the ones on the sun Type 6 keyboard that I have which means pretty soft feeling but stiffer than on the sun. The space bar is better on the sun, however, not sure about how come it is but that's how it feels. The keys look the same as the ones on the Type 6 so I figured they would be the same and turned out to be true.
One thing that bugs me, the mod (diamond) key doesn't register any events in xev :/ I'll have to see why.

Are those the two keyboards the guy on eBay is selling? What is the difference in feel between the two, if any?

There's an extreme difference (also in price ;)) - I have a lite 2, that is down right uncomfortable to use, very gummy feel to the keys. Xsphat has a lite 1 that he likes a lot, so that's one to look out for.
As for the Pro line, everybody here that owns one loves it! I don't own one (yet).

they are, he doesn't have the extensions for the more expensive one. The keys on the non-lite are softer and depress less than on normal membrane keyboards although right now I'd probably recommend to someone to buy the lite simply because the mod keys work for me even though the light key action of the "hhkb2" is really nice.
-
Thanks, D-EJ915, I will probably wind up buying a Lite next month. Mostly I want a very compact keyboard for my home server. If I could actually write on it that would be a nice bonus.
-
My lite 1 is good for at work but I couldn't write more than emails on it.
-
After typing on the non-lite for a while I have to say I prefer the lighter action of it but I can type equally well on either keyboard.
So, Happy Hacking Keyboard 2 > Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite
now I just need to get a PS/2 extension cable, lol

As far as I can tell, and I am not an expert, the HHKB line up goes something like this:
1995 Happy Hacking Keyboard
1999 Happy Hacking Keyboard 2 + Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite
2003 Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro + Happy Hacking Keyboard Lite 2 (USB 1.1)
2007 Happy Hacking Keyboard Pro 2 (USB 2.0 and Rohs)
Only the pro's have capacitive switches, all the others are rubber dome.

I thought you worked at a paper or something? Doesn't that require you to "write more than emails"??

Correct.
But they would prefer that Americans did not know about the Pro 2. :)
-
My HHKP2 is probably arriving tomorrow, i wonder if the lite 2 is also worth it....

Correct.

Going by serial numbers and dates post here on geekhack, they are only producing about 100 a month. They could sell that many standing on a street corner in Tokyo. At that rate I would guess they have one guy hand assembling them. Of course they do not want to sell them here, they would have to pay him overtime :D

I'm a paginater who gets published from time to time. I make corrections and final PDFs for the press, assemble pages and update the website. When I have to write "in the office," I bring in a keyboard. And I write the parenting blog from home.
