Luckily... the defiance in us… the refusal to accept nature and its limitations… lead to the creation of a better device….
Surely the Gods gave Pandora curiosity but not eyes, as what was left in her box after the evanescence of evil was not Elipida for mankind, it was indeed The Ergodox.
A gift from Zeus… the one glimmer, the one shred of kindness that exists amidst the unassailable death which greets us around all corners.
We may not yet have the answer to life’s questions. But as to our arduous barefoot journey through it all..
FINALLY.. we have been given a pair of shoes.

I'll be honest.. after using it for a few hours, going back to a staggered layout is really, really uncomfortable.

I was waiting for an ErgoDox reference.

Is this thread about a QFR? Where can I get one of those?

Bro get one from Amazon they are only like ~$80, you could get two, one for each hand!

I actually did that for a while... it worked ok... but no tenting.... I can't type without tenting now... well, I can, but I don't want to...

Just what I needed to make me feel better about finally making up my mind and ordering an eDox, although I got a classic case rather than the full hand.

Well, while you can still change your order, remember that the full hand is more difficult to do Tenting, because the wrist part gets in the way..
-
Yeah after putting together the full hand, I got in on R3 and ordered a classic case instead

Well, while you can still change your order, remember that the full hand is more difficult to do Tenting, because the wrist part gets in the way..
I figured the classic case gives me more freedom as I can get a custom wrist rest for it if I wish, whereas with the full hand you're stuck with the case.

right... I'm just making sure all reasons are clear...

So I should stay with full hand if I can’t make custom wrist rest?
-
It's all fun and games until you realize you need to set up keybindings for every game and frequently take your hand off the mouse.

Doesn’t the tenssy board do the mapping for you?
-
So I should stay with full hand if I can’t make custom wrist rest?
depends on how much tenting you intend to do.
The higher up your table surface is relative to your shoulders the less tenting you will need.
If your table surface is slightly above your elbows, then it is more comfortable to use EXTREME tenting. 35 to 40 degrees.
For extreme tenting, the full hand would be harder to set up vs the classic.
but if your table surface is high up.. then it doesn't matter which one you get.
-
So I should stay with full hand if I can’t make custom wrist rest?
If you want a wrist rest but don't want to have to make one yourself or get someone else to make you one then the full hand might be a better option.
I am considering changing my order as while I like having the option to make a custom wrist rest, I don't know how I'd go about doing so, and getting a custom one from The_Beast(if he even makes eDox rests) or someone else will likely be expensive as I'm located on the wrong side of the pond.

This is not true..
You can setup a gaming layer, which would cater to most games.
I have a layer I use for FPS, and another layer for ONLY starcraft 2.
If you play a million different other games, you're likely a casual gamer, in which case, you're not that serious about gaming anyway.. so none of this matters...

There will truly be something to learn when there is some possibility of getting a laptop with a split, unstaggered positioning.
Until then, it seems wiser to put one's effort into learning a layout that's better than Qwerty.

8 days ago..I can type 130 on my laptop...and 50 on my ergodox
Today I can type 110 on my ergodox.. and I can still type 130 on my laptop...

The danger of absolutist statements is the ease in disproving them.

You're not a modern man.
You're a cave man living in our modern world.
As a modern man, I do not contend that virtual experiences are the same as real ones. I merely accept that they're close enough.

Hmm.... I do like beef jerky... I'm not sure about the idea of dressing up a kidnapper van, then catching people at intersections trying to sell them meat though... ;D

i'm just glad tp4 is talking about keyboards. it brings validity to his membership at geekhack :P

I talk about keyboards " all the time " ... IDK why there was a rumor going around that I didn't talk about keyboards... spread by my fan club no doubt... :D

I've only been here for a week and from the little I've read of tp4's posts I can tell he is devout in his believe of the Ergodox, I shall call him a "Doxist" :))

i dunno, i dont think doxist would be right, Dox, a geekhack/deskthority member who was a founder in all this, had other keyboards designed other than the ErgoDox, they were called the Dox as well. dunno, maybe something else.

Point is.. excessive internet heroics used to cause wrist and shoulder pain.. these problems have been completely resolved by extreme tenting and splitting.

well the concept of Pitching a walled surface is pretty universal... so it's been applied as euphemism to innumerable similar actions...
But, yea, this is a new one

LOL... this is where your un-evolved brain putters out.
The greatest COST to your traveling is not money or plane tickets.. It is TIME...
You may be rich in real experiences, but you are poor in time.
Time is the only thing you really own.. and it cannot be multiplied, extended or significantly modified..
This isn't to say I don't believe in the possibility that space folding can exceed this dilemma, it's just that we're not any where near it within OUR alloted time span... THUS... you're wasting away unnecessarily...

You're good a laugh or two, TP. Yes, my unevolved caveman brain cannot comprehend the folly of my ways.
But I have one question: if time cannot be modified, how can I control it?
What is time, anyways? Is it a tangible thing or some measly human creation, only to disappear with us? Will it outlast the stars?

I'm not using time as a physicist would..
I'm using it as bound by human limitations...// colloquial-time
That is the time you have to perceive all that you can...
A man of the past traveled to broaden his horizons and seek new perspectives.
Now that we have the info-sphere.. there are no human horizons unreached.. and whenever such even does occur, the most relevant information from such occurrence is instantly shared.. and disseminated to anyone who'd care.
What you do, traveling, is like going to the library to read "real books"... are there merits to it... Yes, I agree there are..
But..... because your time is limited, the info-sphere can give you MOST of the information at dramatically reduced time-cost.
The world hasn't been made smaller, it has been made more accessible, and anyone who dwells in the past and choose not to fully take advantage of this is the hopeless cave man.
