Title: Falconry
Post by: bear95 on Sat, 22 June 2013, 13:42:44
Anybody have any experience with falcons?
Found a teenage falcon on the ground near my house which was cool and I saw its mom feed it once and I have a video of it(maybe I should upload it). A few days later I found it near a tree on the ground not moving at all(can't fly and walks around my house looking at squirrels) and two days later it was still there. I don't think it ate(independent now?) and now it couldn't even chirp anymore and flies are swarming it. I contacted wildlife center and what they basically told me is to leave it and let darwin do its work but how could I do that?  :( Any ideas how to get it to live? I know I'm supposed to feed it fresh animals but all I have is steak and it seems like it likes it but I know its not good for it and I want it to not rely on me.

Pet stores often have cheap mice for use in feeding snakes and stuff.

You should call a local nature preserve or rescue place and they will take it and nurse it back to health, or bring it in yourself. If you bring it in they have an obligation to take it.

You could do that because you contacted the proper authority on the matter of wild animals and they told you what to do...

Maybe pictures will draw some more sympathy...
I first found on the sidewalk and it was at night and didn't stop squaking for hours. I took it in for one night and contacted wildlife who said it was natural and to just leave it outside. I did and it was sweet seeing its mom come and give it a mouse(don't know best way to upload video).

Where are you located. There is a raptor sanctuary in nj that nurses falcons hawks owls eagles back to health and returns them to the wild.

Sent from my phone.

You did all you could! Such beautiful birds, too. You gave it a go friend, but if it died this morning then more than likely it would've died whatever you had done.

Don't feel sad about not doing something quicker. You tried your best!
