Title: Solder for Phantom
Post by: Dgsbllx on Thu, 27 June 2013, 09:30:26
New to soldering so noob question  ;D

Was speaking to my neighbour about the phantom build, and mentioned I needed to do some soldering and was going to buy some and he gave me some solder;

Will this be alright for the phantom build?

Thanks in advance

edit; Should have asked in one of the threads rather than a new topic, sorry. Didn't even think about it  :-[

Should be just fine, though personally I prefer the stuff with lead in it.

Which is illegal in the EU...

Err on my part - illegal on anything sold in the EU, as a component it can be sold, and you can use it for your own purposes, but re-selling once used in assembly becomes illegal...  Gotta' love the EU

Double edit... someone should really tackle the wikipedia page on solder - it doesn't go into hard soldering at all...

That looks too heavy, you should get some around 0.032 dia. or less. Leaded is also easier to use it has a lower melting point.

looks like a thick wire, you would want 0.3 or 0.2mm solder wire
