Title: 2 keyboards plugged in, problem?
Post by: sectionq on Fri, 05 July 2013, 08:43:22
Hey guys,

new here so HI! I've had a little peruse but didn't find anything on this but I just wanted to know if there are or could be any problems that could arise from permanently having 2 keyboards plugged in? All seems fine but just wanted to be sure, not being techy where hardware's concerned.
I've got the two plugged in so I can click clack by day and then continue by night with the quieter one when everyone has gone to bed. I'm guessing/hoping that I couldn't find any info because everybody does it on here.

Anyway, that was all really, cheers.

If I have a Model M (SSK or 1391401) or my 1087XM, the scroll lock/secondary layer will mess with my more modern/standard keyboards. Other than that, I haven't had any issues with multiple keyboards plugged in.

It depends if they are both USB it shouldn't be an issue.  If one is PS2 and one is USB certain linux distros get kinda upset and favour the PS2 one.

My goodness! Those have got to be the quickest replies in the history of I don't know what?!
Anyway, thanks guys, so it looks like any issues will just be apparent if they exist, no harm to be done then. Actually, the Unicomp is USB and the Dell is PS2 via a USB keyboard/mouse converter, the Dell does have the occasional freak out where I need to unplug and replug and it's fine but it does that even if it's the only keyboard plugged in. About once a week so no biggie.

Ridiculous! I've just had a look on the back of my pc and found a PS2 port, to be fair I've only had it for 3 years! Hopefully it was a dodgy ps2 to usb converter and it'll stop its weekly freak out now hooray!

I prefer to plug my PS2 keyboards into PS2 ports, but they often seem loose and insecure. Too bad, it should have been a good way to go.
