Title: Red/black Switch TKL Keyboard needed
Post by: jd4311 on Sun, 07 July 2013, 22:00:09
Hey guys, I am looking for a red/black switch TKL keyboard recommendations. My only special requirement is that its TKL and 100% compatiblitable with replacement caps from WASD keyboards, (I have a theme in mind). I feel that my blacks on the steelseries 6gV2 are a little to heavy to use so I'm inclined to try the reds. I searched for ducky and only really found the shine.. but I don't need a backlit or want backlit. I found the majestouch 2 and majestouch 2 ninja which are somewhat expensive, then I found some leopolds and noppo's but I really don't know whats good and whats not.

If nobody can recommend a keyboard cheaper than the majestouch 2 that has all easily found keycaps/standard keycaps so i can get a whole set then I'll probably just get that majestouch 2

Thanks.

Yep, the QFR is exactly what you are looking for.

QFR +1

Or KeyCool (older ones had a non-standard space bar, but newer ones seem to have a standard space bar).

I gave one of each - both good boards :)

Blah, I should of mentioned I really don't like the CM ones due to the fact that there branding is everywhere on it. I did find this "stealth model" I guess I could probably go with this as its not as exessive as the other models.

The only thing is i don't care for the LEDS, if i buy keycaps that don't have holes for leds will it still shine slightly under the key to the point of it being noticeable?

Too heavy?  They're lighter than most rubber domes, and even little kids use those.  :))
Oh, and I'll sell you my Filco Multicam with MX blacks for $130 shipped if you're interested in having a nice keyboard and developing a firm handshake.  I want to try out 60% boards.  :p

No.  Eveyone will recommend the QFR, including me.

The newer revs of the QFR are unbranded.

And you can get an unbranded case top.

I just looked the new ones up. Wow, much better looking than the original. Still basically a Filco for half the price!

I have a Ducky 1087, but why get the Ducky when the new QFRs look so nice and are better build quality?

Ducky is very well built too.

You will often find Ducky recommended if someone wants backlit, and QFR is non-backlit.

well he mentioned the 1087 which is not too great in terms of build quality but still ok for what it is.

I should have said better perceived build quality. My Ducky is solid and has served me well, but doesn't get much use because I'm not a huge fan of browns. Does Ducky not make the standard 1087 without back lights any more?

100% compatiblitable with replacement caps from WASD keyboards,

I found some leopolds and noppo's but I really don't know whats good and whats not.

the leopolds are not 100% compatible with WASD keycaps. its 99% compatible. the spacebar on the leopold is different than most keyboards.

i would definitely recommend the filco. great keyboard that is high quality. i have never personally tried a QFR though. so maybe they are just as good for a lower price.
