Title: Cover for ErgoDOX
Post by: MOZ on Fri, 12 July 2013, 14:34:17
Some of you may remember I made a keyboard roof as there is a lost of dust in India. Thus before I actually got to building my Ergodox, I knew I needed a solution for the dust. A keyboard roof like last time wasn't going to work as well as that only involved one bend at the top and one at the bottom. I needed something more sophisticated. I thus took the acrylic layers of the ErgoDOX, removed the bolt holes and changed the layer ordering.

To the bottom most layer of the cover (The one in contact with the keyboard), I added countersinks for the bolt heads, this actually helped get a ready good fit for the cover and it not fits just in place.
[attach=8]  [attach=7]  [attach=12]

I added one of the large holes for the keycap area on top as sort-of-a handle (Since I got the sheets for the case and cover cut myself, I had access to these). Infact, I have so many of the extras, I don't know what to do with them :P I countersunk the nuts for these, as I didn't want them scratching my keycaps.

Also added washers to the fastening set (For both cover and case), to get a better fit.

Some random shots of the cover

Placed a switch in the mounting plate and added a keycap to see clearance. Plenty of space. Before anyone asks, the keyboard is not complete as I am yet to receive all the parts for the keyboard since I am sourcing all of them individually myself.

Nice work! I take it that you're planning to build an acrylic ERGODOX case?

Hmm... I wonder if something like this could be made for the ErgoGP.
