I just took my spacebar off and found a spring resting over the switch. What is the point of this?? I removed it and the spacebar feels worlds better without it.
-
i think it gives the option to the consumer on how stiff they want their spacebar
-
It adds a bit to the weight of the spacebar, I forgot what the exact weight is but its either 5grams or 10grams I believe

5 grams....per le rip o meter.
I've grown to appreciate the spring under the spacebar.

Yes. I like the spring too on my FC660C. Why would you take it out? RealForce 87U's have those springs as well on the spacebars.
-
Same as the HHKB too, its got VERY little resistance to it. Could try taking it out if you wish, its doesn't affect the switch at all.
-
Well, I was had problems with the spacebar because it seemed out of place with the rest of the board, does that make sense? All the other keys are very light while the spacebar was a bit stiff. After taking the spring out it feels like a dream.

Nope.....but the springs are the same across the whole topre line.

I almost lost this spring the first time I took keycaps off of a topre board, I popped the spacebar off and the spring shot halfway across the room. It was pretty surprising.
That being said, I like the spring and leave it in.

I took the spring off mine. It felt too stiff. I prefer a more uniform feel for all keys.
Almost lost my spring when removing it also. My place has a lot of stuff, so it was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

My hhkb did not have a spring under the spacebar?

Haha! I did the very same thing. I watched it fall right through my fingers onto the blueish gray carpet; I thought it was gone for good til my dad stepped on it.

The HHKB definitely has one :).

Oh I'm stupid and I was drunk when I posted that. On the RUBBER it has one. Sorry about that lol

On the FC660C I liked the space bar spring on the backspace key.
-
I have it there as well. I tend to mash my backspace really hard so I guess the extra weight gives it a better feel.

Actually I mean under the space bar..if you pop the space bar off, you'll see another spring that fits around the topre switch....not the spring that is on every topre switch..this is a really light little one...You might've lost yours when you took off your space bar or maybe someone lost it before they sold it to you..
