Hey everyone,
I had commented a bit on an oldish thread on the DSI Modular Mac Keyboard. After several delays (and no blueprint of the game pad :(), they finally shipped me the main board. The keypad will be sent to be sometime later. I will be posting a full review after I have some time to play with it a bit more but I did write a paper on it last night (Woo! Technical Writing Majors!). So here are some initial observations from someone who has not used a really good keyboard since the '90s:
Blue Cherries are clicky - This is a very good thing. I was playing a bit with how much I have to press down to activate the keys. It is a bit odd for me as I have been typing on generic keyboards for quite some time. I really like the noise that the keyboard makes now.
The build quality seems quite nice to me. Will include pics in later review
Unfortunately, there is no feet on the board. Although the no slip feet on the board are quite nice and it doesn't move but there are no pop down feet to raise the board up to the angle that I'm used to. This draws a frowny :( from me.
That's it so far, if anyone here has any other questions about it, I'll try to answer as much as I can. :)

Unfortunately, there is no feet on the board.
From an ergonomic point of view those feet at the back are bad because they make you bend your wrists. Feet at the front and a higher seating position would be better. However, that seating position is worse with the mouse. So, no feet is best.
Looking forward to the pics and congrats on getting such an early example.

Definitely look forward to seeing the pictures. I really like the blue cherries.

Is it July '08 already?

Vic, do you huff Glade?
Just a question.

Xsphat: No, Vic's right. I was just waiting for my Delorean to come in to get the board :)

The question stands, though.

Any updates on how is this new keyboard?
I was a Northgate user for years. On the mac, I tried the SMK88, and surprisingly I did NOT like it. It requires way too much force, and I had a response time problem on Leopard. I returned it, the DSI guys were very nice about it.
I think the SMK88 has black cherry switches? I am interested to see if the blue cherry or the brown one will work better for me. How do they compare to the ones in the SMK88?
Thanks,
P.K.
