Anyone here use the ONI? I received mine today and this is my first brown switch. I definitely prefer Clear and Topre better but I needed a TKL for all the key caps I have purchased and awaiting delivery. I put the R4 SPH on the keyboard though and it looked great. Unfortunately, the space bar doesn't seem to work very well. Stock space bar was ok but when I put in the R4 space bar, it feel as though it's not as bouncy as the stock space bar. Every time I pressed the space bar, it felt like it was already half pressed and it doesn't bounced back. What can I do?

probably an issue specific to the Oni. R4's SA profile is very tall and thick relative to today's mass-produced spacebars, so it sounds like there is some collision prevent full, free movement of the spacebar.

Only happened with space bar though. The rest of the keys and modifiers are ok. And it's using Cherry stabilizer.

Big heavy spacebar on light switch... feels like typing on pudding. Replace the brown spacebar switch with clear or grey solve problem.

Ivan, I believe you nailed it. It's probably the light switch. With other keys - alpha, numeric, functions and even the mods, they are ok. But space bar is just too heavy for it. Sigh! And I bought the ONI just for this set and it comes only in brown, unfortunately.

Fortunately I found someone in Malaysia who knows how to change switch and he has some MX Clears in stock. So I am going to engage him to change the brown in the Space bar and the bigger modifiers to Clears. Then I will put back the SA profile and will report back how they feel. Is it odd to have a mix of browns and clears in a board I wonder?

I use an Oni everyday at work, and I have the same problem with the DSA Retro spacebar. The Cherry stabs definitely touch the stems of the spacebar and hinder its movement, because the stems are millimeters closer together than they should be. No problems with other SP DSA spacebars though. I suppose a fix would be to clip the top of the Cherry stabilizers off, and have it behave like a captured Costar.

The build quality on the Oni is great, better than a QFR. A few features are different though: No detachable USB cable, and Cherry stabilizers instead of Costar. The stock Oni keys are PBT, and not completely fugly like the QFR's. The downside is that they are pad printed, and get darker from use fairly quickly.

Chilly.. Wouldn't the Cherry stabs go INTO the stem? So the fact that the space bar doesn't bounce back is due to the weaker and softer Browns not able to push the bar AND both of the left right Cherry stabs up - and because the Cherry stabs do not have spring themselves, instead of helping the switch push up, they indirectly created a force to weigh the space bar down..

The two inner corners of the stabilizer interfere with the key stems, when the stems are too close together. The friction keeps the spacebar from popping back up. At least, in my own case with a DSA Retro space.
If the actuation force of the mx switch is 55g, wouldn't the spacebar have to weigh close to 55g to not return all the way to resting position? That force you describe that keeps the key down could be friction in your case.

I see what you are saying on the stab stems being too close to the switch. That's true with the BackSpace or Tab or Enter. But with the space bar, the stabilizer stems are far away from the switch so I doubt they are causing friction.
And I don't have any issue with Backspace nor Enter. They bounced back fairly well. That's the reason suspected the soft Brown switch being the culprit.
